Heaven to the tongue, Hell on the stomach foods

by Ron Taglieri » Sat Jun 02, 2007 9:21 pm

Ok, this thread dedicated to foods you love to eat, but can only do so occassionally due to the physical toll it takes on your bodies later (no more graphics, but you get the point).

Here are some of mine (not calling out specific restaurants as I believe it is more the genre of food):

1. Indian food - Love the stuff, but knots me up bad later. Since I usually eat at buffets around town, cannot localize what it is, but suspect curries, saag, and those honey balls for dessert could be culprits. Good stuff, but makes it a once a month experience.

2. Chicago greasy spoons - The entire loaded hot dog, Italian beef and sausage are great food, especially for their hangover curative properties. However, eat there frequently and you will be one hurtin puppy.

3. Cajun food - Gumbos, jambalaya and red beans & rice are stuff of dreams, but only in a blue moon.

4. Vietnamese/Thai food - The red peppers are the stuff of fear factor legend and can only be eaten on the full moon.

5. Giant steak blowout - Not so much the food, but the occasion forces normally sane people to try and gorge down a 20 oz. steak. I think this stems from being less willing to doggy bag it home at a nice place.

Any others?

You should check with a doctor to see if you have GERD (acid reflux). Nexium helps!

Denny's has a chili queso chicken dish that I like, but I feel it afterwards.

Plus, there are always White Castle's.

Bedford, this thread is about foods that are heaven on the tongue and hell of a body. I don't think that White Castle sliders qualify as heaven in any way! LOL I don't see how anyone who claims to like food can like a slider!

My husband loves Indi's wings. They have a homemade hot sauce tthat you can order that he dips his chicken wings in. The hot sauce is very tasty and VERY hot. However he complains everytime he returns from the bathroom. I tell him not to eat it, but he thinks all the trips to the bathroom are worth it.

As I get older(39 in less than a month), I find certain things that I used to be able to eat, now give me some sort of discomfort. For example. I absolutley LOVE V-8 Juice!!!! But I find that now when I quaff some, it upsets my stomach. Other things like overly spicy foods don't seem to bother me, nor does tomato sauce. I don't quite understand why after years of drinking gallons of the stuff, all of a sudden within the past year, I can't enjoy a full days supply of vitamin C (and other good stuff)?

I like food. I also like sliders.

Why do people feel the need to be elitist about food? Is that the best you can do? Food?

I hope not. For your sake.

Anyway, to the topic of the thread...

HOT Buffalo chicken wings.

Sliders are great every now and then, My first job when I was in high school was at White Castle and I can tell you while they are no culinary Mecca, they are probably the cleanest of the fast food restaurants and they pay their employees well as well as good benefits. I know good food and sliders are good food... After a night of heavy drinking.

Warning! Not for the squemish: More than several years ago the Twig had a very regular, very drunken late-night customer that would always order the "womb" with 2 over-easy eggs on top & a basket of cheese fries. One early morn after this "guest" had ordered his usual & after consuming the entire meal I turned around, just in time, to witness the entire thing yukked up onto the table & watch this guy fall face first into the mess. His buddies carried him away & we haven't seen him since.
