HotBytes Potluck Dinner to Benefit KY Harvest - Who's Coming

by Steve P » Mon Oct 19, 2009 2:11 pm

Hey All,

Sunday November 15th 1pm until 6pm

The Hotbytes Fall Ball "Pot Luck' Dinner and Food Drive 2009 to benefit Kentucky Harvest will be held on Sunday November 15th from 1pm until 6pm at The Cardinal Harbour Pavilion located off Rt. 42 in Oldham Co. This is as semi-private event open to Hotbyte Forum members, their families and their friends. The cost to attend the event is FREE, you are asked only to open your heart in the form of donations of non-perishable food items which will benefit Kentucky Harvest. Free and open to all hotbyters and families.

Here's the post where you can sign up for the "Fall Ball" (anything from casual to business casual dress of course). Let us know who is coming and what you are bringing. In the spirit of a true "pot luck" lets do this...You don't necessarily need to identify the exact dish you intend to bring (who cares if there are 3 kinds of baked beans anyway) just simply identify your dish within something approximating these broad descriptions:

Appetizer
Entree/Main Dish (Meat, Pasta, Vegetarian, "Kid Friendly", Casserole, etc)
Vegetable, Rice or other Side Dish
Soup or Stew
Bread or Rolls
Salad (Pasta, Veggie, etc)
Dessert
Soft Drinks
Condiments/Salt/Pepper/Butter
Other (includes anything I forgot above)

Lets not worry about paper/plastic ware, etc. just yet...If a couple of people who aren't inclined to prepare a dish want to contribute towards these products, just drop me a PM and we'll get it taken care of.

Please note...and this is important...Please try to have food prepared before you get to the dinner. There IS an oven available to keep food warm until serving but it will be totally awkward if we have 7 people jockeying for limited space in order to finish their dish. Also PLEASE with the exception of food prepared in slow cookers try to bring any food in disposable aluminum or plastic containers. This is not the event to bring Grandma's antique deviled egg plate to. If you choose to bring a dish in anything but aluminum or plastic it will be YOUR responsibility to recover such items at the conclusion of the festivities...Homie ain't huntin' ya down.

Ok, we'll jump on this bandwagon early. Becky and I are coming and will be preparing two (2) meat entrees. We'll also bring a big vat of mashed taters.

Wait - what am I missing?! Where's the other thread and when/where is this? Am I blind?

No matter, please put me down for a salad. A GOOD one.

***editted to note - evidently I am partially blind. I see the other thread now and will proceed to read it...

John and I will be there! I'll bring Bourbon Creamed Corn with leeks, unless there's a grassroots uprising against it.

Mary and I will have a commitment that Sunday that will make it tight for us at the beginning and the end, but we'll sure be there for most of it.

We'll bring ... um, can I think about it?

LOL, I forgot that I brought corn last time we had an event there. (It was great, btw, for those of you that weren't able to be there: we had a book drive for Jessica H.'s kindergarten class.)

I guess I really love corn.

I'm in. At this point I have no idea about what I will bring other than it won't be a dessert or soft drinks! Perfect excuse to look through some of my old vintage cookbooks. :)

We are in!!! Like Gayle, I will bring whatever is needed--sides, meat, etc. (except, not a dessert person!). Cardinal Harbor is a great venue so it will be much fun plus supports a good cause. Thanks to Steve, Ed and Robin for getting this together.

I will have to just give a definate maybe at this point, If we are able to make it (Have to check with the central planning commitee first), I would be happy to bring some chafing dishes, disposable foil pans, Sternos, serving utensils and few tablecloths so most everything can be set up buffet style :D

It would be great if those who are bringing a dish that needs to stay warm, to use a standard size full or 1/2 foil pan so they will fit in the chafers!

My husband and i will be there, with our 17 kids.

As for the dish i don't know yet. I will be in church that morning and traveling straight to Oldham Co afterward, so i don't know how i will "store" my food until 1 pm. I live in Indiana so it will be a bit difficult to drive from my church (in Louisville), back home, then to Oldham Co. ......

I will have to think about how i can work it out. I did want to cook something though..... I wanted to take abichuelas .... puerto-rican beans.
