Limestone

by Bonnie E. » Mon Oct 05, 2009 11:53 am

My husband and I found ourselves with a couple of "kid free" hours Saturday evening and decided to go to Limestone. Have eaten there only a few times but have always been pleased. Mike our waiter and Jesse his "helper" were just great. We weren't in a hurry nor did we wish to spend 2 hours lingering over dinner. Pacing was just right. I can't really write a "review" but my tenderloin was fantastic. My husbands Bison was really good as well (but mine was better!) Good drinks and starters as well. My concern is they were so empty. We were there 7;20ish until 8:30 and there were just a few diners. Anyway, it was great. Remember them and recommend them when you can.................

Can't speak specifically to Limestone, but I think this Saturday was a relatively off-night for most restaurants. The combination of the Art Fair and the St. X/Trinity game made for light crowds around town.

I think that Brad may be on to something. I can't speak for restaurants, but my nail salon which is usually pack in the latter part of Saturday was deader than a door nail.

We did think about that, probably the reason.

I wanted to bump this back to the top and encourage people to go to Limestone. We went Saturday night, about 7:20/:30 and we were the 4th table in the place. There were two other two person tables and another table that might have had 4. We were there about 1.5 hours, and while some left and others came, there couldn't have been more than 12 people in the whole place when we left.

My dinner was fantastic! I give a big shout to them for their wedge, cold, crisp, great bacon and yummy blue cheese. For dinner I had the smoked salmon over caper risotto - delicious! Hub had the same salad and the bison steak. While the steak was cooked perfectly, he didn't think it was a very quality cut. (Preferred the one he had a Bourbon's Bistro as a special) We split the mushroom crostini "side dish" and it was fantastic (really - the small roll is unnecessary since the shrooms are so good). We ordered the cheese plate from the appetizer plate for dessert and it was very nice (Spanish blue, peppered goat, aged smoked gouda).

We had a good Malbec, but I really don't know what it was other than it was $35.

While our server (Brooke - very nice) said they had been busy with walk-ins on Friday night; I do have to wonder how busy they've been overall. They were out of the scallops and the 10oz filet - so could this mean they are ordering less?

It was a great mean, a lovely atmosphere, good service - so GO and support them.

thanks for the nice review of Limestone. I continue to make it my top east-end lunch location, but I do need to keep it on my short list for evenings.

Have you been to brunch there lately, TP, and if so, is it still as good as ever? We have a group looking for something upscale and interesting, preferably with a buffet option.

Robin,

I go at least once every couple of weeks or so for business meetings. I think the entrees are as good as always, although I think the starter bar has fewer choices than what you would want to think of it as a buffet of any sort. Hard for me to say not to go, though, since it's one of my favorite places.

Are we talking Sunday brunch here, though, or weekday lunch? I was under the impression that they have - or at least used to have - a more expansive Sunday spread.

I had brunch at Limestone today and was very pleased. $14 per person and quite a spread. Smoked salmon and shrimp, peel and eat shrimp, pasta salads, soups, beef tips, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, spinach and mushrooms, potatoes, salmon, pork loin, cookies, cakes and cooked to order french toast, pancakes, and omelets.

Very nice and a great value.

A very dapper Robin Garr was also there. I didn't say hi, he seemed to be in some sort of a meeting.

I have driven past this place numerous times and never saw cars there so thought it was closed. I'll have to check it out...love brunch!

Anyone know if they are open for thanksgiving?

I saw a sign that they were closing for remodeling this week. I'm not sure when they said they were reopening. I'd call before heading that way.

I saw that sign too. I'm almost certain that they're closing Thanksgiving week and opening the week after, but I agree, a phone call would be best.
