Songs and Food

by Carolyne Davis » Fri May 25, 2007 12:47 pm

Thinking about all the great music (and of course FOOD) happening this weekend brought to mind some of my favorite food related songs. There are thousands of songs out there having to do with food - which just goes to show how much we are inspired in some way by food! What are your favorite food(ie) songs? Here are a few of mine:
RC Cola And A Moonpie - NRBQ
Church - Lyle Lovett
Homegrown Tomatoes - Guy Clark
Jesus and Tomatoes Comin' Soon - Kate Campbell
Chocolate Cake - Crowded House
Tossed Salad And Scrambled Eggs - Kelsey Grammer
Potato - Cheryl Wheeler
Spam - Monty Python
and two more....
This song was written by Rupert Holmes (Buoys) while watching the Galloping Gourmet - Timothy
In honor of Abbey Road On The River (try to catch The Past Band at 7 tonight and Saturday at the Liverpool Stage) Strawberry Fields Forever

I've always been partial to Bo Carter's Delta Blues ballad, "Pigmeat is what I crave."

Of course, in Louisville these days you can just go with Dino Martin and sing "Volare, oh oh oh oh ... cantare ... "

Scotch and Soda isn't a food??? I love that song. And Lovett's too, huge Lyle Lovett fan.

"Scenes from an Italian Restaurant," Billy Joel

"Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," Gershwin

"Margaritaville," Jimmy Buffett

"Bangers & Mash," Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren

"It Was a Real Nice Clambake," Carousel

"Chicken Cordon Blues," Steve Goodman

"Tea for Two" (Bobby Short's, Late Night at the Cafe Carlyle)

"Isn't it Romantic" (Billy Holiday/Michael Feinstein version which is beautifully lush and romantic and which devolves into wonderfully wry silliness: "isn't it romantic, soon I will have found some girl that I adore; isn't it romantic, while I sit around, my love can scrub the floor," etc., and "isn't it romantic, on a moonlight night, she'll cook me onion soup....")

Clyde Bauman, a friend and great comedian from North Dakota, performs as Mylo Hatzenbuhler, a German farmer who loves food. His music is hilarious, and with tunes such as "Super Cattle Growth Hormone," "Old Time Caramel Roll," "Ballad of the Big Buffet," and "I'm Getting Round."

His site is found here: http://www.farmboymusic.com/

“Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon.” -Doug Larson, 1924 Olympic gold medalist.

Thanks for that, Gayle DeM. I believe as Emeril does, that pork fat rules. Yes, I am a large man but get very healthy checkups once a year.

I'd never die.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Alice's Restaurant. Which happens to be one of my favorites. Or I want Candy by M.C. Pee Pants.
