Where for Dinner in Old Louisville?

Folks,

We have a friend who is having a small gallery opening down by U of L this evening; afterwards we are planning to grab some dinner nearby with our 5 year old. We've been to Carly Rae's and love their patio, but I was looking for additional suggestions- particularly as it gives us an opportunity to eat someplace new that we'd probably not normally drive to. Looking for something casual, with great food, suitable for family; strong preference for someplace with a liquor license .

Any recommendations?

Third Avenue definitely! They have a wide variety, plenty of vegetarian and meat options, and most kids I know love it.

Amici has some good kids' dishes . . . grilled cheese panini, and so forth.

I think Third Avenue is a good place to take kids because it's funky and there is interesting stuff to look at, such as Elvis, artwork, etc.
They have a wide variety of appetizers, sides, sandwiches, and soups which are good for most kids.
My 3 year old niece loves it.
I've been to Amici for lunch a couple of times and it was ok.
But if I was going with a 5 year old, I'd definitely go for 3rd Ave.
It's funky and casual, and they are usually accomodating if you want a sandwich from the lunch menu at dinnertime.

No, Carly Rae's replaced Leanders.

My vote would still be Carly Rae's. It's supposed to be great this evening - low to mid 70's, not humid, like last night. It would be a perfect night to sit outside.

3rd Avenue is on the corner of 3rd and Oak. Really good sandwiches, not sure about their dinner menu though, Not saying its bad, its just I usually eat there for lunch not dinner. Now that I think about I went once for dinner. The only downside is that there is no kids menu per se. I'm not sure how old your kids are Deb, but this may be an issue. When we asked about a simple grilled cheese, our server pointed to the one on the regular menu for $7.50. My daughter was two at the time and in no way would eat $7.50 worth of anything so she just shared off of our plates. If your kids are older, this might not be an issue. Either way, really good food.

I like Third Avenue's lunch menu much more than I like the dinner menu. There's nothing per se wrong with the dinner food; I just like the lunchtime variety more.

Does anyone have a source for a Carly Rae's menu? We were heading to Third Ave, but the lack of a kids menu is an issue for an inexpensive night out ( eating off our plates is not an option to our 5 year old- he's a "big Kid". I googled Carly Rae's but can't find a website or a menu posted anywhere....Want to see what the sandwich option are...

Brownings is 5 minutes from Old Louisville. We have $5 kids meal w/ drink & fruit. Music tonite on patio.
