I've tried In'n'Out now and then, around Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and the North Bay, and I have to express similar bemusement. It's not bad, and certainly a far superior experience to Mickey D's. But I couldn't rate it close to WW Cousin's or even Red Robin. I think maybe it's something like Coor's beer used to be when you couldn't get it in the East and people used to smuggle it home on trips.
