Breakfast

The title says it all. Where should I go? Preferrably someplace not way out in the middle of nowhere. I'm looking for new places to try.

What are your old places?

My favorites for breakfast in town:
1) Toast. I like the vibe, the food, the fact that it's downtown.
2) North End. I like the vibe, the food, the outdoor dining in the right weather.
3) Lynn's. Don't like the biscuits, but like most of the rest of it. You have to go there at least once.

Three good picks!

Consider adding ...
1) Mr Z's at Third and Breckinridge. Classic diner, albeit run by a Bosnian family.
2) Twig & Leaf. Just for the tradition.
3) Treet's. Well worth the trip across the river to N'Albany. Not only fine for coffee drinks and pastries but egg and pancake dishes as well, a great place to hang out on Pearl Street Live. :)

Wagner's Pharmacy. Great breakfast, and very cheap.

Twig & Leaf. Just for the tradition.

I think you meant for tradition if you have been drinking heavily, it's late and no where else is open

I have never had a good meal at Twig & Leaf, in fact have had a couple of bad ones. Enough that we won't go back. I just don't see the appeal in that place. I second Wagner's, especially if you are any kind of racing fan. And we love Sweet & Savory out on Bardstown Rd. Great breakfasts there, big portions, lots of flavor!

The Twig used to be better. I don't know what happened to it, but it's definitely not as good as it once was.

To the lovely folks that continue to put down the Twig; you're right the food does suck after 3pm during the week & after 5pm on the weekend.
The reason I will keep to myself. Now I will tell you, if you come dine with us in the morning or early afternoon, you will leave with a different attitude about the food & service. The reason I can assure you will have a good experience; I am the person who created & designed the menu for the previous owner & I'm still there flipping eggs after 16 years. I will also tell you we do several hundred covers every Sat. & Sun. am with a rush that lasts between 5 to 6 hours. Sales totals between $1400 to $1800 each day. We must be doing something right.

I'm glad you think I'm lovely, but I never said the food there "sucked".

If you don't mind spending a little money, Blu has a great breakfast buffet. They'll even cook your eggs to order and the salmon and capers are to die for. They have about 8 toppings for the oatmeal, 4-5 kinds of bread you can toast, regular and turkey sausage, assorted fruits and yogurts. The list goes on and on. Oh, I need to mention how warm and friendly the service is. It's as if you've walked into a quaint little B&B except for the fact that it's a big downtown hotel.

If you go to their website, you can get a 15% off coupon. As a matter of fact, I will be dining down there with a coworker tomorrow morning.

The casual restaurant downstairs in the Seelbach also does a nice breakfast buffet. It is small by buffet standards but everything is top quality and very fresh.

Blue Dog Bakery

by John Lisherness » Mon May 21, 2007 9:54 pm

"Southern Living" did an article about their top picks for breakfast in their November 2005 issue.
The article led with a glowing review (and pictures) of Blue Dog Bakery.

It's still outstanding.
>>Disclaimer...my daughter is the pastry chef and she's married to one of the bakers who's the owners' son... but I stand by my opinion. It's still my favorite breakfast in town.<<
