White Castle Milkshakes

by Laura T » Tue Jul 14, 2009 3:25 pm

The attorney I assist has requested that I launch an urgent investigation into a very serious matter - the discrepancy in fat and calorie content in White Castle's chocolate milkshakes by region. 8)

She discovered while perusing the nutrition information on their website that Louisville's small chocolate shake has more calories than the one in Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, and St. Louis (although Cincinnati, Nashville and New Jersey's are even more fattening than ours). She is very disturbed that we have one of the most fattening shakes, and suspects it's all a part of a conspiracy to keep us fat in these parts. And, because I asked the question myself, no, there is no difference in the size of a small cup between regions.

Here are the stats on a small chocolate shake, by region:
Chicago - 390
Cincinnati - 570
Columbus/Detroit - 430
Indianapolis - 420
Nashville - 580
New Jersey - 580
St. Louis - 433
Louisville - 530

Here's the site:
http://www.whitecastle.com/_pages/nutrition.asp

Does anybody have any thoughts or insight into this very important issue?

Let me down a bag of sliders while I ponder this one.

very important issue?

What .. no ambulances to chase?

"very important issue?" Sounds important to the lawyer .. say class action suit.

Sounds more like a sarcastic tone was being employed....

Interesting though that they vary- are they different sizes in different locales? The whole point of a fast food chain is consistency across locations no matter where you eat, so I wouldn't expect the recipe to change ( much less for corporate to document it)... :?:

I was being facetious about the "very important issue." I guess I didn't make that obvious enough. . .

Anyway, nope, Deb. The small size contains the same amount of fluid ounces in all regions.

Actually it was pretty obvious. I just thought I would throw in a little lawyer bashing.

It could be the air in the mix, the weight of the shake is the answer........I think ?

Yep, double cheese burgers for me. The single sliders have too much bread.

I love a Whities Chocolate Shake. My only complaint is they are so thick you HAVE to eat a sack before the shake is thawed enough to pull through a straw. Maybe it's the extra fat content?

You know, you're actually talking about a real forumite's real boss. Funny? Maybe. Seems closer to crude to me.

I'm wondering if this could be a regional supplier issue...different milkshake mixes, whole milk versus skim or 2%, etc.? That would make the most sense to me. It does seem odd that they would document the difference from region to region.

Well, if they didn't document it then that might be a real problem.

When I run a sample of my food through my homemade calorimeter, I don't want to find out that I've been deceived.

(Since we're unmasking our sarcasm here, I don't own a calorimeter. Although I could probably fashion a crude one if I wanted to do so...)
