Best food at sports bars, or places to watch games?

by Adam Smith » Sat Jul 11, 2009 12:55 pm

Well baseball season is heating up and football is about a month and a half away, just wondering what places around town are good to watch games AND have good food. Admittedly I'm a BW3's junkie, but I also go to Joe's Older Than Dirt because of their outdoor patio with big screens where I can smoke a cigar during a game. I've also enjoy Hoops and Rooster's, Wick's on occasion as well. Boombozz Taphouse may be a good place because their flat screen HDTV's are everywhere and their food is really good, the location and its popularity may be a problem because of the dinner crowds.

Just wondering if there's somewhere I'm missing with outstanding food AND a sports bar type of environment(fans cheering, chants, fight songs, etc.) I want to have dinner and see the Reds game somewhere tonight... any suggestions?

I would think BoomBozz Tap House would be an awesome place!! What about Bluegrass Brewing Company? They have a lot of TVs and their food (not to mention beer!) is good! I have never gone there to specifically watch a game, so maybe someone else who has can chime in on the atmosphere.

Taphouse looks like it may be it... however a Saturday dinner crowd on Bardstown Road sounds like no fun. As far as BBC, I've eaten there thrice and the food was average at best 2 times, once it was godawful. Good beer though.

What about Turkey Joes on N.Hurstbourne Lane? Have you been there before? We used to go there more often when we lived out that way, but we always had great service and food. They have TVs all over. Their nachos and black & bleu burger are awesome, imo.

Indigo Joe's in Westport Village has great food, lots of television's and covers all the sporting events in a relaxed atmosphere. Beef O'Brady's also has very good food and wonderful sports coverage, their atmosphere is lively but it will lower key than BW's. While I like the food at Turkey Joe's, I really don't consider it a good place to watch sporting events.

I've been to Beef's a couple times for games, never really liked the food. It was good menough for that kind of place I guess, but I still prefer BW3's wings and onion rings.

Speaking of that, has anyone tried Buffalo Wings and Rings? Good food? Nice TV's?

BJ's in the mall has been consistently a fun atmosphere for settling in and watching games. We've been there a few times, plenty of big TV's, the food is good enough for what it is and the beers are consistent. Service has always been friendly and prompt.

I haven't been there personally by couple of friends have and they said it was marginal at best. The atmosphere was OK but the food and service was lacking. They went to the one off LaGrange road.

I like Flanagans and the Pub. Had a really bad time at Champions but I heard it has improved since. Maybe Brownings?

I enjoy watching sporting events at the BBC Shelbyville Road and on 4th. I agree, though, that the food is often average. I usually stick to drinking only.

I can't really think of a good sports bar. Are sports bar more a pro-sports town thing?

Not a true 'sports bar', but Chef Mickey at TK's Pub has some GREAT pub food.

He makes most everything from scratch, and has the best burger in town, imo.
