Lunch near the airport...

by Becky M » Wed Jun 10, 2009 10:09 am

We are taking my mother to the airport and would like to have lunch before she leaves. What is inexpensive and not too far from the airport? Doesn't really matter what type of food, just family-friendly. Any suggestions?

Cottage Inn at the corner of Bradley and Eastern Pkwy. Sweet little home cooking restaurant that's been around forever and was bought by the owners of, oh dang, what's their other place? Greek diner in Germantown or Old Louisville? I've been there once but I can't seem to remember! Anyway, Cottage Inn is adorable. Other than there, you'll find a Sushi place closer toward the airport on Eastern by Horner Novelty. Cardinal Hall of Fame at Crittenden and Central - that's much closer to the airport and it's a big place. At Central and third you'll find J Gumbo's, Beef O'Brady's, can't think of exactly what else in that shopping center. And then there's the Mexican place right there that I've heard great things about but never been.

You could try Puckers on Preston: 4041 Preston Hwy ( 1 Block North of the Watterson X-way

Josh A said they have great onion rings in another thread. I haven't been there myself - yet!

Actually, they could shoot out Preston just past Gilmore lane and hit Rosticeria Luna for REAL Mexican that will knock their socks off, with friendly bilingual service. Also in that region, Thai Smile 5, although I haven't been overwhelmed.

Closer still, on Preston near Phillips Lane, Toni's Pizza (formerly Vito's) is pretty good.

And Cottage Inn on Eastern Parkway at Bradley is indeed an excellent choice for well-made down-home fare. The fried chicken ranks among the best in town.

We are leaning towards cottage inn, only thing is that it seems people tend to have an extremely long wait. any truth to that?

The fried chicken is made to order and requires extra time.

In general, places like this don't operate like fast food, so it's not reasonable to expect it to be as quick as a McDonald's or Wendy's. But the food, the mood and the attitude are going to be a heck of a lot better. I'd allow a little extra time and credit it in the enjoyment category.

Extremely long wait seems to be a little much, even when ordering the fried chicken. Outside the fried chicken (which is made to order), I've found food delivery times to be on par to most "order-at-the-table" locals minus, say, Sante Fe, which gets you your food in about 5.5 seconds when the machine is well oiled.

Ya know - I was actually thinking of something else on the other side of third. I forgot about Iguana's - never been to that location but I've been to the one near the Greentree Mall in Indiana, and I thought it was pretty good.

I have taken several people to Lynn's Paradise Cafe pre-airport. It's easy to get to the airport from there and they get lunch out in good time, plus the novelty is fun.

The sushi place near Horner's is on Preston.
