McDonalds? ..... Update.....

by Becky M » Wed May 27, 2009 12:15 am

Because I don't want to get slammed and/or upset anyone I am asking:

Would it be okay for me to write about an experience we had at McDonalds?

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission

The original plan was to pick up some family friends that came in from out of town for a convention and then find a place for dinner. Their convention ran longer than expected, we all stood around talking longer than expected. It was close to 11 and they said they just wanted to get some McDonalds, eat, and go to sleep. So we headed to McDonalds on Taylorsville Rd., McDonalds Lakeside i believe it is called. We went in and there was maybe one other person there eating, we were a large group of 11 people, but only four were having "meals", my family was just snacking. Everyone placed their orders around 10:45 to 10:52 pm. None of us knew that they closed at 11pm, nor did anyone tell us, yet.

As i was standing there waiting for my daughters' cookies and ice cream, a young woman in a grey shirt said to me in a flat tone, "You know we close in ten minutes." Then just turned around. I asked the gentlemen in front of me, "Does that mean we have to leave in ten minutes?" He just very nicely said not to worry about it, it was ok.

Well, we sat down, and as we were all eating and talking the lights were turned off in the dining area. Now i dont mean that most were turned off and they left a couple lights on and it was dimly lit. I mean they were OFF, and we were sitting and eating in the dark for a few minutes. I looking over and could see that the woman in the gray shirt (manager) and the crew member were "discussing" the lights. Finally , someone in our group went and asked if they could please turn the lights back on. About 2 minutes later the manager came and locked the door, and said to us, "You know we're closed, I'm giving you all a couple of minutes, but we do have to get out here sometime tonight." This was said, very, very rudely. None of us commented back. Of course after that we were all extremely uncomfortable, my guests hurried ate and even just threw some of their food out so we could leave.

I went up to the counter and asked two crew members that were standing there if she was indeed the manager, they whispered yes she was. I asked her name and they whispered it as well, in a very hurried manner. I didnt get it. I was also asking the name of the General Manager when she came over and interrupted us. Saying, "What do you want?"

more to come........

I replied to her, calmly and nicely, because i wasn't upset (yet), "You were rude to us by having us eat in the dark and saying that you all had to get out of here sometime tonight." She proceeded to walk away to the drive-thru window and just left me talking. The other crew members, about four of them, were just standing there with shocked looked on their faces. I said to her, "You sold us food at 10:52 , eight minutes before you close. If you didn't want us eating in here at this hour then you should not have sold us anything." She proceeded to say, "I just told you that we were closed and we all had to get out of here sometime." She said all of this to the computer of course, never looking up at me, and she was still standing by the drive-thru window.

I said to her, "Customer service. Customer service. You could have told us in a much different manner." Now that i did say in a very sarcastic tone, and by then i was upset at her rudeness and unprofessionalism. She continued to ignore me.

I then asked, "What is your name?" NO ANSWER. I asked again. NO ANSWER. Then i asked, "What is your general manager's name?" SILENCE. I asked again. SILENCE. She finally said, still without looking up, "You can call the store tomorrow and find out." She then said, "You need to leave or i am calling the police." I calmly said, "Call them." She repeated her bluff saying, "i am going to call the police, i feel threatened. You are a very large crowd in my store." Again i told her to call. My large crowd was: Me and my husband, our four children, and 5 much older people. Very non-threatening IMO.

My husband came up, baby and diaper bags in hand (i state that because i don't see how that would be threatening) and said for us to leave. One crew member kept whispering apologies, extremely, all the others just looked scared shocked. Not at me, but because she was so outright rude. So we left.

by the way............we hugged and said our good-byes in the parking lot for about ten minutes.........the cops never showed.........

pa da.... pa pa..... paaaa.......i'm lovin' it!

customer service? lol.....it was non-existent... On her part. The other gentleman was really trying to make up for it. Actually we all felt very bad for all the other workers because they looked very uncomfortable at her attitude. The lights thing, we were shocked.... unbelievable.

yes i plan on calling, might go over there to talk to them in person. And i was also thinking of writing a letter as well.

im paying bills.......what are you doing up so late?

Come sit by me.

I think you should post which location it was. Some of the area McDs are company owned, others are franchised but I think either would want to know if they had a manager behaving like that. It also sounds as if the other employees are accustomed to her rude behavior . She may be costing the business good employees with her attitude. No one wants to work for a crazy, loose cannon, self absorbed manager.

Actually i just got off the phone with the location. Everyone is refusing to give a manager name. I asked for the manager, and some came on, and i said, "Hi, name is Becky who am i speaking with?"

she said, "what do you want ma'am you asked for a manager."

I said, "i needed to speak with the manager, are you a manager?"

she says, "Yes, what do you want?"

Me: "I had a situation last night and i am trying to get a manager's name."

Her: "what store, where were you?"

Me: (i am annoyed by now at her rudeness.): "Ummm, i am calling the number that is on my receipt that they gave me at THAT location last night."

Her: "ok, XXXXXX was the manager."

Me: "Ok, who is the store manager? I would like to speak to someone that oversees the managers?"

She is stalling and uhhhh and ummmmm alot which is why i say that to her. Then she says, "We like to take care of problems here in the store without doing that."

To which i say, "OK i need to know who the store or general manager is?"

She gives me his name and says he might be in today sometime.

I call ANOTHER location to try to get an area manager's name. They give me a name, i ask if i can speak to her. They have to get my name and number and give it to her. She called me about five minutes ago and told me that the location i am referring to is franchised and she cannot help me with the situation. She says they are owned by Gatti and Young off of Shelbyville Rd. she believes. She says she doesn't have anyone's name and instructs me to call the 1-800 number. She was also VERY upset that i was given her name because she is not in charge of that location and wanted to know who and where gave me her name.

sigh..............
