Louisville Taquerías/Taco Trucks

by Damon M Barnes » Mon May 18, 2009 4:25 pm

Hello all. I'm new to the forum but have been reading since I moved to Louisville a little over a year ago. For my first post I would like to try all of the taquerias/taco trucks in Louisville and thought it would be nice to have the listings/reviews/locations/hours of all of them in one convenient place. Thanks in advance.

We went to the gordita trailer at Eastland on Saturday - the cashier told me they are open Friday - Monday, from 4:00 pm to 1:00 am. It was our first trip there, and it was great. Worth the trip, and I saw Dak Shin in that same center, so we'll be trying that next!!

I am not familiar with any other taco wagons other than the gordita guy in eastland shopping center. We used to have a guy (Juan Deleon) who was around the Lyndon area, but he seems to have disappeared. I have seen some guys eating out of the back of a truck near the Hormell plant, but it seemed to be on the down low. Please post up if you find any other trucks around.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

They do tend to operate on the edges of the radar. For a while there was one out Preston just a few blocks north of Thai Smile, and I've had reports of another over in Clarksville. Juan Deleon hangs out on the forum at times and I also see him on Facebook. I'll try to track Juan down and see if we can get a report.

I can attest to the fact that Las Gorditas (Eastland Shopping Center) is open for business (and is year-round apparently , sorry, Pat). My wife and I ate there last night (it's been our Monday-night-thing for the past few weeks, with the occasional Friday or Saturday tossed in when the mood strikes us). They've even added some seafood items that are not on the official menu (but are posted in the window) -- in the past these were items usually reserved for certain weekends only.

We've noticed that there are considerably more folks showing up on Monday nights now (tended to be a slow night), thanks to the good weather. The Costas have remodeled the trailer a little and have an enclosed tent for when it rains.

Just trying to drum up a little business for our "not-so-guilty pleasure",

I think I meant to say Jeff. I've heard, but haven't seen, that one rolls up sometimes in an apartment complex just west of Greentree Mall.

Greentree Mall - that would be Clarksville. There are a couple of "authentic looking" taquerias on Eastern Blvd. in Clarksville. I have not made it into either of these as of yet.

Yeah, after I corrected myself, I sort of thought I was right in the first place. I actually know my way around the Sunny Side fairly well for a Louisville boy, but I do get kind of fuzzy about where Jeff and Clarksville and Sellersburg and Hamburg meet. I'm pretty good on New Albany, though.

La Herradura has been on Eastern Boulevard for quite a while ... I reviewed it early on and found it right up there with the Preston Highway taquerias.

clarksville sounds about right...There is not so much of the little taco places going on in Jeffersonville, there are a couple though. About a year ago there was a large tent set up, with a grill outside of La Rosita Carniceria. I saw it once and never saw it again. La Rosita does have some very, very good little tacos and burritos. It is also the little store I like going to when I need to stock up on my Mexican spices and stuff. I walk in there and feel like i am back home....sigh....

but i digress.... My mother knows a few families that live in the apartment complexes behind the mall, I am going to ask her to investigate for me. or i could just take a cruise around there on the weekend.....

There are some good taqueria's on Preston highway. My favorite being "La Favorita" in the front of the parking lot where Unique Thrift store and Big Lots share a building. It is right next store to a mexican grocery by the same name. Also on Preston is La Tropicana which is a grocery/taqueria. There are also a few more scattered on Preston but I can't remember the names. Lolita's on Poplar Level is very good but more of a Southern California style taqueria. They have awesome carnita's and taquito's.

Good Luck !

Being from Tucson, I'm always looking for a good Taqueria. However, as a vegetarian, I know that many of the authentic ones use lard for their refried beans. In Tucson, a lot of them got away from that (although many still did).

Anyone know of any around here that don't use lard? And I'm talking about the little places not big fancier places.

Thanks for any pointers. I realize it may be an impossible request.

P.S. I second the place on Preston by Unique (it is a couple blocks north of Fern Valley).
