CJ spills the beans in belated Hot Brown Throwdown report

by Robin Garr » Fri May 11, 2007 7:34 am

Sarah Fritschner spills the beans on last week's Bobby Flay vs Joe and John Castro "Throwdown" in the weekly "Dish" PR column today, and gets things wrong, mostly, relying on an after-the-fact interview with the Castros and revealing that they did, indeed, beat Flay in the final decision. Curiously, she doesn't mention who the judges were ... ;)

AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
(Need a beating head against wall emoticon inserted here)

Why, oh why must we be smacked in the head with a daily newspaper that is a faint whisper of what it used to be? It is no wonder why we have a generation that has grown up NOT reading newspapers. I feel like I need a hazmat suit just to fetch it from my driveway in the morning.

If there would be a way to clone from his remains the dearly departed Henry Watterson, and let him have at the ole' Curious Jumble
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

suit?

by BDKollker » Sat May 12, 2007 1:46 am

How is Gannet allowed to talk about these events after people involved with them have to sign papers. I mean will Food Network not care? Because if they don't I'm talking to the highest bidder on what happend at our Iron Chef taping and why it has not aired.

That's Iron Chef. This is Throwdown. There was no confidentiality request. (They did hand me a one-page contract to sign, but I skimmed it to determine that. It was strictly a release allowing them to use any film they took of me, so I couldn't sue them if they later show me picking my nose or looking fat.)

I didn't reveal the winner when I posted about the experience here, but not because of any promise, only because I didn't want to be the "spoiler" and figured it would be more fun for folks to watch the program when it airs without knowing in advance who was going to win. That was my decision, not Food Network's.

Be wary of free emoticon sites unless you run a good malware screening program like SpySweeper. They're notorious for dropping "adware" onto your browser, and some of that stuff comes pretty close to the definition for malware.

I run Adaware, Spyware Blaster, Windows Defender and I use a virus software that includes the ability to zap the malware stuff in real time. I also have a couple of firewalls in place. Just last night a trojan back door virus tried to get on my hard drive but 2 pieces of the software I used caught it and killed it. I have an added advantage of being an IT guy where I work, but this is good advice for the "average" user. :D

Indeed I was talking to the general audience, not just the geeks. ;)

I do understand, though - and have met some less experienced folks who've had real problems with this - that you run some risk of conflicts and unanticipated consequences when you try to run multiple malware blockers and firewalls.

The emoticons are from another board I frequent, and I'm pretty sure they're "clean." Yes, you may use them. Enjoy!
