I reckon he's entitled to ask Mr. O. J. Simpson to leave if he so desires. Really, I was expecting to read some horror story where you or one of our forumites had been asked to leave. It does happen.

For some humor, read the message board at the end of the article Charles posted. I always get a laugh out of the people who post on the CJ's boards.

I couldn't agree more, Amy. What a noble and bold thing to do.

an fyi for those who don't know, this was a full page ad in the Courier Sports section about 2-3 weeks ago.

Sport section? Of course, men love steaks and will talk the ladies into going there for some meat, why else?

The ad comes across as very heartfelt and sincere, a good tool to build loyalty to build loyalty with men.

I'm sorry, my marketing side is coming out and I'm getting into advertising analysis

maybe it's just the contrarian in me, but I keep going back to feeling that while it was a bold move, maybe it wasn't the right one....

Believe me, I have NO love for OJ, he creeps me out and I think he most likely was guilty, but was I there? Were you? A jury did find him innocent...and if we want to be true to our constitution, innocent UNTIL proven guilty...I guess I keep wondering if it was really Ruby's place to make that judgement...I'm not defending OJ per se, but if he was found innocent, doesn't that give him the right to eat out? I realize Ruby's rights to not allow people, but in that case what about all the customers who are disrespectful of servers? He certainly expects his servers to put up with a certain amount of arrogance or outright rudeness, it's the nature of the game. When is it ok to be about money and not respect? Why isn't OJ's money just as good?

As I said, I may sound nuts to you, (or maybe it's just the liberal in me) but, while I'm not inclined to shake his hand, I don't see why a guy proven criminally innocent shouldn't be able to eat in a restaurant...

I am sure Ron could say this much more eloquently, but with murder, the person has to be proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt. I think it is much easier to be acquitted of murder because of technicalities and the fact that the defendent's attorney only has to prove reasonable doubt, not innocence.

Now, I wonder where OJ went after leaving Jeff Ruby's?

Maybe a certain Latin restaurant that even moved his illegally parked car for him and was busy kissing his a.. Rebecca is completely correct. He was not "found innocent". He was found "not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt". There is a big difference.

I may never go to Jeff Ruby's because I am not a big steak eater and really can't afford it. But I give Ruby a large amount of respect for doing the same thing that I would have done. I have owned a liquor store and a bar and I would not have served him. Kudos to Jeff Ruby. And his place will be at the top of list if I do go to a top of line steak place.

It is an owner's right not to serve whom he/she pleases. I wish more people had Mr. Ruby's stones. From what I heard, the patrons that were there applauded when Mr. Simpson left the building. That tells me something right there.

Ruby was interviewed on the news last night. It was a brief interview and he noted that OJ showed "a lot of class" when he left, not making a scene and shaking Ruby's hand when he left. Also noted was the applause from the patrons.

Jeremy: I like your opinion on this because a lot of innocent people who are acquitted of a crime carry the stigma with them for the rest of their life. Just being accused can be as bad as being convicted.

But, let's remember that the O.J. case is a little different. The evidence against him was OVERWHELMING. If that case was tried 100 more times, he would be convicted 100 times. Plus, in a subsequent civil suit he was found to be liable for the murders.

All of that being said, a restaurant owner has a right to refuse service to anyone as long as it is not on the grounds of race, gender, or religious affiliation. I know several restaurant owners who have had to permanently ban certain customers for various bad behaviors. Certainly, being found liable for killing someone could count as grounds for banning someone.

I think it took more courage for Ruby to do this than it did for other restaurants to welcome O.J. I, for one, applaud Mr. Ruby.

Well, so much for OJ's class. His lawyer from Florida is threatening to get Mr. Ruby and his liquor license. Yale Galanter claimes it was because of race, even though I saw Michael Jordan ate there over Derby. Here is the story on WHAS:

Hopefully, someone will put a stop to this, soon!

Last year he was here for the derby. For whatever reason he ended up on the Francene show (84 am 9/11.45) from Wagners Pharmancy. Francene is not a softball questioner. Starting off he was jovial and friendly. After a couple of questions he hung up.

The man is pure garbage.
