Pick up on the way home from the track

by Catherine Davidson » Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:40 pm

Where would you go to pick up fried chicken, well seasoned greasy green beans, awesome mashed potatoes and a variety of pies such as coconut cream and chocolate meringue for 50-75pp. on your way home from the track Oak's Eve? This is an annual event that the Southside used to box up. Now that's it's closed , again, I need to source this. CD

Indi's for the fried chicken. Their spicy recipe with their hot sauce is fantastic. Their potato wedges are also a great option, and I've heard good things about their mashed potatoes. I'm pretty sure they have green beans as well, although I've never tried them.

As for the pies, you'd have to look elsewhere.

As an addendum, Indi's will also cost you significantly less than 50-75pp.

I think she meant 50-75 people. Pretty sure. If she's offering $75 a head for fried chicken and green beans, I'll cook it myself!

Indi's won't have the desserts you want. I have a better idea: why not try Jarfi's Bistro and Catering at 589-5895?

So I've really gotta know this...am I the only one who read the title to this thread and had their mind go straight to the gutter ?

Anyway, now that I've climbed out...and KNOWING that I'm gonna get smacked down for this suggestion, why not support the "home team"...KFC.

I like Indi's but not for this occasion. Think traditional Southern. Also the trinity of beans, chicken and m.p.s need to all come from one place if the Pie Kitchen gets involved. CD

KFC = yuck not yum

The other option is Kroger. They have pretty good chicken.

If the embarrassed smiley was working I would definitely be using it right now, but alas I don't know the shortcut.

I thought that price sounded terrifically excessive, but I've come to realize over the years that such exorbitance and Derby weekend go hand in hand. Of course, four years of living on campus at U of L (which is perilously close to Churchill Downs) during Derby has also instilled in me the instinct to hide under a blanket and pray for daylight, which has the side effect of me not really knowing what goes on in Greater Louisville on the actual days of Oaks and Derby.

The CJ ran an article about their new owner and the reopening some months ago. I'm not sure when they closed for the second time. CD

Yes, I've been there a few times since they re-opened under new owners, but last visit was before the holidays...I wasn't aware they closed (again)....

John I may be wrong but I was told by someone who follows their fried chicken that they closed, again. So it would be nice to not have to cross the river in the race to beat everyone to the house. CD
