After the less than impressive offline at BJ's awhile back, my wife and I had sworn off the "brewpub" chain in Oxmoor Mall. However, this Sunday, looking for an option to sit and enjoy the UL game with my mother in tow, without doing the true "sports bar" scene, we settled on BJ's again, mainly because we were already at the mall and it was, at the very least, edible during our previous visit. So we gave BJ's another go.
Ultimately, my evaluation is about the same. Strictly speaking in culinary terms, the food is average and non-threatening at best. Nothing there is going to challenge the palate and chances are good that most of it is constructed from frozen ingredients. As mentioned before, their beers are reasonable approximations of the styles they are intended to represent. Their Hefe probably being the highlight of the lot.
However, I will say BJ's served excellently in the capacity for which we had chosen it. As a venue to sit back, enjoy a few beers, chow on some appetizers and watch the Cardinals play, BJ's scored a slam dunk. The place is very clean, the service is very attentive and despite a large party next to us, not at all noisy or uncomfortable.
I'm probably not ready to make BJ's a go-to spot, but it will serve in a pinch if you are in the area.
Alas, I'm guessing y'all missed those lessons as your pubescent minds were busy spending time in the gutter.
