Asiatique

by Phil Gissen » Tue Mar 17, 2009 10:03 pm

We had a wonderful meal outside at Asiatique tonight, enjoying the flavors and presentation. Bart, our server, was well informed and told us correctly what to order. We had a great time talking to Bart about Philadelphia, a great foodie city. I just wish the restaurant was more crowded. I would think that St. Pattie's Day would be a popular night at Asiatique. By the way, the seafood in this city is great. Why aren't there more seafood restaurants that specialize in seafood that is not fried? (I think that's improper English) I have been drinking since three, sorry for my poor usage. Thanks.

What?! Why would Asistique be particulary busy on St Pat's? I'm so tickled you went to Asiatique! I like the place a lot.

And thanks for the compliments regarding our city, Phil!

I would think Asiatique would be crowded on St. Pattie's Day for the following reasons:

It has a great outside deck and it was a grand day.

Although many of the drinkers on St. Patrick's Day prefer Irish bars or restaurants, some times the holiday just brings people out.

Bardstown Road is an active street and I thought the "over flow" would hit Asiatique.

The bar is cool and it seemed like a fun place to get liquored up.

The place was filled with groups of businessmen rather then couples or groups of revelers. It just seemed different for March 17th when you see people celebrating real or imagined Irish heritage.

Heh - Anderson was doing double duty lugging kegs around and bringing out fried fish elsewhere last night.

We went to Asiatique on New Years Eve without reservations once long ago (they were near the old Sears, where Cafe Lou Lou #1 is now) and got in. So I still think of it as the place to go on holidays.

Why would anyone go to a pan Asian place on St. Patrick's, an Irish Catholic holiday in a heavily Catholic city? St Paddie's is all about the irish pubs, and the whole city was very active that day. Most people aren't going to go into a nicer Asian restaurant on an Irish Catholic holiday wearing jeans and a green T-shirt. Phil, why didn't you join the crowds up and down Bardstown Road and the Baxter Avenue pubs? On days like that, Bardstown Road has the pedestrian and car traffic that is the same as Clark Street in Chicago, where I used to live. I love it and you can't say the Highlands is dead on days like that!

I didn't criticize at all and I do not know why you are trying to be antagonistic. I was being positive about Asiatique and you come on like you would like to punch me in the nose. I try to avoid loud crowds on St. Patrick's Day and just thought the over-flow would enjoy a place like Asiatique. Wow, you make me wish I was younger instead of a passive near 60 year old.

Phil? I didn't read Michael's post in that way at all. Funny, you never struck me as a hyper-sensitive kind of guy. Discussion is what we do here ... conversation. I did think Michael got a little rough on you in the boisterous Bardstown Road thread, but all I see here is friendly back-and-forth. What's up, guy? Deep breaths, man ... deeeeep breeeeaaaths ....

Robin, as you note above, if you look back at other posts, Michael and Phil have been invovled in an ongoing male catfight for awhile now, that from my reading, really began or escalated in person/away from Hotbytes. I may be wrong, and no offense to either Phil or Michael, but in light of their ongoing dispute, Michael's post struck me as him just taking a swing at Phil.

As I emailed Robin, it seems that everything I post is taken in the wrong way. I love the Louisville restaurants and find them incredibly good for a city of any size. I'm getting fat just by eating too much of this good food. I just want some peace and love, to quote Ringo Starr.

One point to consider, other than Derby Week Louisville doesn't have much "over-flow". We're a big small town in many ways.
