Founders Brewing Company is Coming!

by Ashley Isaacs » Tue Mar 03, 2009 6:35 pm

Founders Brewing Company, an absolutely incredible brewery, just signed with Beer House and will now be distributed here in Louisville! Flanagan's Ale House will be hosting the release party this Thursday, March 5th, starting at 7:00. We will have 3 of their beers on draft and another 3 in bottles. For more info about the event, email me at ashley@louisvilleirishpubs.com. If you can't make it out, I highly suggest picking up a 6 pack of Breakfast Stout or Centennial IPA... it's delicious!

Thanks for the information. I first had some Founder's a couple weeks ago on a trip to Michigan, and the beers of theirs I've tried are awesome! The Breakfast Stout in particular is great. I emailed them the other week because I saw one of their trucks on Main Street, but hadn't heard anything back from them yet. Where can I buy their 6-packs in Louisville?

Huzzah for founders! Thanks for the heads up Ashley, and I'll probably see you on Thursday.

I called the rep and he said Old Town, Liquor Barns, Value Market in the Highlands, and Whole Foods are carring them. Value Market only has 2 styles, and I'm not sure about the others. You are safe going to any of those, they pretty much seem to have the best selections in town (other than Flanagan's of course!).

Yeah, I really look forward to getting the Ky Breakfast Stout, but it won't hit the market until March 15th. I have been promised one out of the two kegs the distributor got. There shouldn't be a problem with getting bottles though!

Are you going to stagger when you roll out each beer, or is it going to be a free-for-all at 7?

We will stagger the drafts at 7:00 (Centennial), 7:30 (Dirty Bastard), and 8:00 (Breakfast Stout). We learned our lesson with the Stone promo, staggering is by far the best way to get the beers out. This all came about rather quickly and I was only able to get 144 glasses, so the guests will only get to keep the glass with the first brew. The beer's the most important part anyway! The bottles will be available any time after 7:00.

We've got Centennial IPA, Reds Rye Pale Ale, and the Double Trouble Imperial IPA 4pks in stock right now at the barns. The KY Breakfast stout btls won't be released until the same time as the draft. The beer is really good. Like to make it tonight myself.

Ok, so for all you that like tasty beer but haven't tried Founders, the Breakfast Stout is very tasty, reminded me of chocolate covered coffee beans, and the sample of the Ky Breakfast Stout I had was absolutely fantastic. I'm not so much a fan of IPAs so I don't really feel like I should comment on those, but the Dirty Bastard was nice and malty, very tasty.

I went to the release party and believe me, Founders is as good as advertised! I tried the Centennial IPA, the Dirty Bastard Scottish Ale, and the Breakfast Stout (as well as a small sample of an amazing bourbon barrel-aged stout). In my opinion, Founders is right up there with Bell's and Stone when it comes to great breweries.

Michigan is apparently the place to brew great beer in the midwest - Bells, Dark Horse, Founders and almost by proximity Three Floyds
