Shout out to Marsha L. and Cafe LouLou

by AnnaC » Sun Feb 08, 2009 7:33 pm

Lately I've been a lurker instead of a poster - but I couldn't not post about a wonderful dinner tonight at Cafe LouLou on Sears. The starter (shrimp lavash), the wine, the pastas all divine. However - the showstopper - on a lovely warm day - was a piece of Lemon Sunshine Cake. DH said it all..."This is the kind of cake I could eat 3 pieces of at a sitting." Marsha - that cake ROCKS!
If you haven't been to LouLou in awhile...it's time to go again...

Anna - how sweet! It is one of my favorites, too (I'm not a big chocoholic like some ladies I know). It's also my best seller - except for one: my new chocolate sensation "The Ridiculous Brownie" - that thing's been flying out the door. But spring is coming. Actually, the Sunshine was supposed to be discontinued during the winter in favor of coconut, but there was practically a riot among the servers when I made the attempt. Sunshine's also the only dessert that's served at both Lou Lou locations.

Thanks again for the kind words! That makes me feel great.

I just wanted to give a second shout to Lou Lou (St. Matthews) for taking care of my wife's family and me on Tuesday evening. There were 9 of us, including 2 young (and full of energy) children. The meal included family from outside Louisville (including San Francisco). Everyone very much enjoyed their food, and our service was outstanding (our server's name has fallen out of my head - Scott I think?). I arrived earlier than everyone else, and ordered a Basil Hayden to sip on. The bottle was almost empty (maybe half a glass), so the bar comped me what was left in the BH bottle and quickly provided a Blanton's.

Marsha, I had the bread pudding, which was excellent, and so big I brought half home and just finished it tonight! Sister-in-law had the tiramsisu and loved it.

All in all, a great time, and one of the smoothest meals I've had when my in-laws decide to all come out to play at once.

Hooray! It's always great to hear a large party went well - we do a good job, but if something's going to go wrong, it seems like it will pick a big-top to go wrong with. Scott is like a server-ninja. He always gets the job done seamlessly.

Thanks for the kudos, and thanks a million for your business. I'm glad you liked the bread pudding!

I had the Ridiculous Brownie there a couple of weeks ago & it was soooo amazing! I also love the Lemon Sunshine Cake! I'm definitely a chocolate girl, but it's all what you're in the mood for.
I was, however, very sad the see the scallops gone from the menu. Our server explained that it was a financial decision--totally understandable as it was a really good deal. Hopefully, they'll try to bring it back as a special every now & again.
I'm a loyal LouLou customer & fan!

Thanks, Stacy and Jennie! Jennie, that brownie is killing me, I can't keep it made fast enough!

Funny story: I was making a birthday cake today and when I got done with it I took it out into the dining room to take a photo of it in the natural light from the front windows. As I was walking by a table I heard someone say "that's where that blue frosting came from", so I went back and said "I'm sorry, I couldn't help but overhear...what blue frosting?" And the lady said "there was a little tiny bit of blue frosting on my sandwich, we were just wondering where it had come from," and I apologized profusely but they just laughed and said it was no big deal, just a TINY speck. I was so embarassed - I must have left a little on the hot line's cutting board or something.

Still, it was funny. I'm glad they were good sports about it!

I must say, I have not had anything that Marsha has made that has not been fantastic! I dunno what we go to Lou Lou for, honestly. Is it the fabulous food, or knowing we'll get to have one of Marsha's desserts?

Keep blushing, Marsha!! You really made my Valentine's Day at Highlands Lou Lou special. Marsha did a special heart shaped cake for us and it was all a surprise to me. The meal was fantastic as always, but the chocolate raspberry cake was spectacular!!!! Kudos to hubby for doing it all, the yellow roses were wonderfull!!

Thanks, Matthew. They need to make a facebook designatory category for that. ;)

Suzi, I'm glad you guys had a good time. I will try to upload a picture of the cake later - I've been trying for 20 minutes. I've re-sized and re-sized and it still won't post. I could post a link, but for once I'd like to post the photo in the actual thread! Guess I'll have to wait until John gets up. So, check back later!

Marsha, if John sleeps past noon, Email me the photo and I'll fix it up for you. We're heading for St. Matthew's, though, and won't be back until after noon.
