Preferred Meats in Sellersburg

This is a new meat store coming to town and can't seem to find info about it. Any one heard anything? I'm very interested since we are limited in our choices up here.

Keep us posted on this news. I'm in Sellersburg/Charlestown every Sunday morning and we'd love to learn more about this new store.

Oh, in Hamburg; Hwy. 60 and Charlestown Road? Cattywampus from the JayC Store?

Years ago there was a really good butcher shop in Jeffersonville. The meat was good quality, but the name drove me crazy. It was Surburban Meats. With two Rs. Ackkkk!!

They've been gone forever. I think the Circle K at Plank Road sits on the site now.

Preferred Meats in Sellersburg

by GinaHawkins » Thu Jun 14, 2007 2:28 pm

I noticed this thread about Preferred Meats. Even though it was posted in April, I thought I'd give the information I know or have heard! It's supposed to be opening tomorrow (Friday June 15th, 2007), with a Grand Opening TBD (possibly the last weekend in June, but the date is stll up in the air).

The meat they sell is supposed to be great - all natural, no steroid beef and pig, locally grown. They will have Boar's Head deli meat and already cooked items (rotisserie chicken, for example). They will of course offer cuts of meat that you want, as well as pre packaged things like hamburger.

These are the details I've heard about, I'm excited to try it out!

Hopefully they work out. I think the only option for a butcher in Southern Indiana is over on State Street, and they have the worst hours for any working person I have seen in a retail operation.

First visit

by BrianW » Tue Jul 17, 2007 6:23 pm

We stopped in here the other day. Nice staff, seemed to know their product and where it came from. They own or sell for a farm in Orleans, IN, and market their meats. We picked up some ground country sausage in two heats (both excellent, not at all like store mass market sausage), also some of their premade 'gourmet' burgers since they looked good (bacon and chedder version). Indeed they were tasty on my grill later that day, I demolished it in a few minutes. I didn't pay attention to steak prices, will go back in a day or two to inquire further. They have one other thing of significant note: silverqueen corn, also from their farm; again tasty grilled for a few minutes then sprinkled with butter and parm!

Regards,
Brian

Lois, Not sure if they have a website or not, but we have been there a couple of times and have loved the items we purchased. The owners are great! We are hoping that they stay open for a long time! They also will do special cuts. You can call in the morning and they will have it ready for pick up later that day!

Preferred Meats in Sellersburg

by GinaHawkins » Wed Jul 25, 2007 10:31 am

I don't think they have a website. They are having a Grand Opening on August 4th from 11:00 to 5:00.

My husband brought home some steaks the other day and they were amazing - very good tasting, very tender....like a really good steak you'd get at a high end steak house. I don't remember the cost - probably more than what you'd get at the grocery store, but I don't even know what to guess. They also have some food that is cooked there to go, but we haven't tried any of it.

I highly recommend the store to anyone!

I stopped in today and made a small purchase. Their meat looks fantastic. What's nice is that this place is a real butcher shop. They are selling meat and not a whole lot else.

Months later, we finally got over there today. Now I'm really sorry it took us so long. This is an EXCELLENT meat market, featuring entirely local, natural meats, and the prices are more than fair. Although Sellersburg might feel like a long way off to Kentuckians, it's actually just off I-65 just a short distance north of the Southern Indiana loop interstate - what's it, I-265? No more than a 15-minute drive from Crescent Hill, anyway.

We came home with a wonderful standing rib roast for Christmas, some beautiful pork loin chops, a couple of beef short ribs ... This place definitely goes on my regular circuit.

I second that Robin. I have had some great strip steaks from there. I am picking up my rib roast Saturday.
