Need help for Sunday brunch ideas

by RTaglieri » Mon Nov 17, 2008 11:07 pm

Just saw posting on Ramsi's Sunday brunch, but trying to find some options for this coming weekend. Big limitations are that it would be a sitting for 10 that includes at least two infants and two other children.

Any other suggestions as well? Most of the people are from out of town, so want it to be a nice experience, but not break the bank.

ps. I am one of those contemptible East Enders, but willing to travel

This is a biased opinion because I work there but The Oakroom offers a great Sunday brunch. The menu changes weekly with a great variety of hot and cold food selections as well as a large selections of desserts. For the kids they always enjoy watching the Chef on the omelette station as he or she prepares them a little omelette or some scrambled eggs just for them. At the same time they can top a freshly made waffle while they wait for some eggs. I spent a lot of Sundays flipping omelettes out there and I think you would have a hard time finding a better brunch in town. Accomodating your party of ten should be no problem but I would recommend calling to make a reservation or make it online at opentable. Valet parking is complimentary as well as Champagne Service beginning at 1 p.m. The prices are $29 for adults, $15 for children and children under 3 are free. Goodluck with your search and hope this was helpful.

If you're looking for something a bit more casual than the Oakroom, you might check out Ditto's in the Highlands. I posted on their brunch in another threat a few weeks ago, but I find it to be pretty good, even though I'm not a huge fan of their lunch and dinner. It is also large-party friendly (I'd call ahead maybe an hour or two before you went).

I also posted my impressions of the Oakroom brunch not too long ago, but I'm too lazy to track it down. Bottom line - I liked it, but I'm just not sure it's worth the money unless you're dying of hunger. It's very standard fare, and at $30+ dollars/person, it can add up.

Doesn't The Bristol also do brunch?

It does, and the Bristol in Prospect has a good one.

Also, since we're talking East End, Captain's Quarters.

And 211 Clover in St. Matthews has a lovely brunch, but it's off the menu, not a buffet.

Love it. I was raving about this one too recently.

If you're willing to come out to Oldham County, Norma Jean's (LaGrange) has a Sunday Brunch (including omelet and waffle stations), along with Arbor Ridge Vine & Grille (Crestwood) a newer restaurant that also offers Sunday Brunch (off the menu, I believe).

North End Cafe does a very nice brunch and they should have no problem seating your party if you make reservations. There brunch is not a buffet but in my opinion that makes it that much better. If you go try the Trout Hash! It sounds a little strange but actually is very good.

Migas! You must have the migas!

Good advice, too, although I got the impression that the original question sought a brunch buffet.

The Rivue, on top of the Galt House, has a fabulous brunch buffet.

J Harrods has a fine buffet. I have been. Very nice. Don't know the price exactly, but +/- 14.00.
Very nice restaurant and excellent service..

J Harrods is located in Prospect on Upper River Rd close to Brownsboro Rd (US 42).

Anybody know what the price is on the brunch at Limestone? Love Limestone, but we've never done brunch there....

I vote for Ditto's. I took my clients from Paducah last Sunday. They know North End and liked Ditto's every bit as much. I think it's stroller/family friendly . They liked the art/atmosphere/open kitchen and being on Bardstown RD. The food was good and the service was attentive. We arrived at 1p.m. and they got us out in under an hour as requested. So I looked good too! :D CD

Thanks for all the suggestions. Ended up at the Bristol and was not disappointed.

Excellent eggs, meat, and waffles on breakfast, and some good lunch items including fresh asparagus and beef tips on the lunch portion, as well as good salads and desserts. Very reasonably priced and quiet, vibrant atmosphere.

Best of all, it impressed family from Chicago and they mentioned they wished there were more options like that at home.

Also, looked very busy so I am hopeful restaurants are going to gut this downturn out.

Thanks again. Will be coming back to board next month for advice on wife's birthday.
