Parrellas.....any one have an opinion??

by Jim Greenbrier » Mon Nov 17, 2008 2:56 pm

Hello,
This restaurant recently enjoyed a pretty good review.....I m wondering abt it as Porcino s, although good, can get a little pricey....

Thanks in advance,

I didn't see a review. To me, Parrella's is okay, but I would pick Melillo's over it for that Italian-American kind of cooking.

Love Parella's, wish they had never left the sunny side all those years ago.

More like Fazoli's than Porcini's in my opinion.

I've only been once, and it's been awhile, but I remember it being okay food (maybe like something someone's pretty-good-cook-mother with no Italian heritage would prepare), and VERY inexpensive. That said, I think Porcini's is better (though more $$$), as is Melilios (more $$).

I'd put it on par with Melillo's myself. I like both places equally well, if you're looking for cheaper food you cant go wrong with Parella's.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

Love Melillo's! Another reasonably priced option is The Comeback Inn. I only wish that they were open on Monday since that's usually when we get carry-out.

My two choices for this type would be Melillo's and Comeback Inn. ( love them both!) Never was impressed with Parellas. Porcini is a step above them both in food and in price, but if you order selectively, it doesn't need to be pricey. Wemt to Parellas once and was not impressed- kinda found it to be a step above Fazoli's- for me their food is too bland.

I need me some veal. Hard to find in this town in the old Jersey Italian style. Eggplant and chicken are not veal.

Yeah Comeback Inn. I forget about that place all the time, but I really do love it.

I like Parella's red sauce, but found the white to be a bit bland. They had a good Ravioli special going for a while and it was pretty good. I find Parella's more of a solid casual dining experience, and places like Mellilo's and Porcini to be a bit more of a special night out experience, and I'll take Mellilo over Porcini every day of the week.

What about Amici, does anybody have love for them? It's close to the house for me, but I keep forgetting they are there.

I love Amici's and wish I were able to frequent it more often! Food is great and I love the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Also being a vegetarian, I appreciate that they offer a few veggie-friendly dishes that are not so common around town such as their vegan cheese pizza.

Mark,

Volare has the best veal that I've had in this city.
