Butcher's Best in Prospect NOW OPEN!!

by Ed Vermillion » Sun Oct 05, 2008 10:02 am

We pulled into the Prospect Point center yesterday to visit Vance's hardware and found out that Butcher's Best Meats & Deli is open for business.

Hallelujah, people!

As we were standing in the parking lot Cindy asked "Are those tears in your eyes?"

Well.......think about it.

In front of me was Mecca!!! From left to right, within feet of each other stand: Vance's Hardware. A full service, local hardware store that has just about everything a hardware store should have (no dynamite, but hey, that is a minor ding :D )

Rick Dissel's Blackstone Grille: Try the Chimichurri Shrimp Scampi, Roasted Garlic and Olive Oil Pita Bread, Blackstone Calamari, Black Angus Filet....just go eat something as it is all good.

Jamie Masticola's Prospect Party Center: Over 20,000 square feet of party supplies, spirits, beer, wine, novelties, gourmet foods, cards, gifts and gift baskets (stole it from your website, Jamie, hope you don't mind.)

Butcher's Best Meats & Deli: A fully staffed meat store that has custom cut beef, lamb, pig, bison, chicken and veal. A fully staffed deli with all the usual suspects of meat and cheese (absent of Boar's Head swill, I think) Racks of hard to find sauces (including Chef Howertons fine offerings) pepper jelly, sorghum, BBQ sauce, chow chow, a large selection of Weisenberger Mill products and a cold case full of dry sausages, cured and uncured beef and chicken hot dogs, Fathers Bacon and the list goes on.
The only thing I didn't see was some Portugese linguisa sausage for our winter staple Basque garlic garbanzo and sausage soup and when I asked they happily ordered some up which will be in on Wednesday. Try that at Krogers, people! October specials include $5.00 off any purchase of $25.00 or more.

Yes, I have tears in my eyes.

Jimmy is the best meat man around, bar none, and a truly nice man who will do anything for you!. I cut with him at Whole Foods for a spell and I know that Prospect is very lucky to have such a place! (congrats Jimmy James if you get this post, and for God's sakes don't ask me about Turducken....)

Well deserved, sir. Everyone of your products we have tried have been very good. While the sauce and rub category is a crowded field you more than hold your own.

Is this the same person that had the meat market in Jeffersontown?

..Visted BB for the first time.....

I ve seen a lot of butchers cut meat but Jimmy Mike has to be among the best....Simply, he s an artist!!

The display case also is the work of an artist imppecably done....the prices aren t too much more..

For those worried about fat content, he ll grind the meat to your spec !!

It looks like a WINNER for the area....but, he has to get the word out!!

I tell you what, this place is fabulous! Lots of Ky Proud food items, lots of friendly service and if you have special requests, they will do it. I specifically made a trip to ask for beef short ribs, asked for a three rib section that I could remove 2 ribs and tie it up for braising. No questions asked at all, they did it. And by the way, some of the freshest items in a case I've seen in a long time. Bravo guys I will be back

Sounds great....those living in the rarified environs of Prospect have got it goin' on!!

Here, in the recesses of Oldham County, we're still waiting for Ponderosa in LaGrange to re-open from its "remodeling"....actually, things aren't that bad -- check out "Arbor Ridge Vine & Grille", a relatively new (3-4 mos. old)restaurant located on Hwy 329 between Crestwood and I-71.....they also include several Kentucky-produced products on their menu....very good.

Was running late getting back home tonight and I remembered that I had promised the bride steaks on the grill. Called them just a few minutes before closing and asked if they would pick out 3 ribeyes, I was on the way and would be there shortly. Amy picked out 3 of great looking steaks and had them wrapped and waiting. They said not to worry. That is fantastic service! They tasted better than they looked. Probably one of the best cuts of meat I have had in a very long time. My wife said they tasted like the steak that she used to have in Eastern Ky when they butchered their own cattle. Thanks for the steak and service, Jimmy & Amy.

Perhaps, more good news......

From a good source, I understand that they will market too Oldham s FOXHOLLOW GRASS FED BEEF !!

The lattter is/was available at the Norton Commons Outdoor Market....In my opinion, it is excellent and in keeping with the other quality products of Butcher s Best...

Ed,

Thank's for the "heads up" on Butcher's Best. We've been in twice since reading your initial post and have to agree with everything that's been said in this thread. Excellent meats and excellent service. Jimmy, Bert and all the folks at Butcher's Best are just great people. Not only that but Jimmy is a Browns fan which makes him my kind of guy <G>. I can't wait to have Jimmy trim some nice baby back ribs for us when we begin competing on the BBQ circuit again next spring. Awesome...just awesome.

Don't forget BB's sandwiches and specials, too. Yesterday the sandwich special was a blue cheese infused hamburger ($3.99 for burger and chips) that was cooked on a grill in the parking lot, was as lean as it could be and as thick as a decent beach-reading paperback. Really good. My wife had a ham sandwich, made with about a half pound of deli ham ($4.99, also with chips). She had to remove half the ham and cheese to be able to get it into her mouth. The remnant ingredients made up another sandwich later - just add bread. The other special was chili. We had a half cup (full serving) and it wasn't our cup of tea. Great meat, good sized chunks of tomato, very thick, no spaghetti and decent heat, but it had cinnamon (or nutmeg, we couldn't agree) that made it taste a little like that stuff they call chili in Cincinnati. Some people probably like that spicing. We aren't in that category.

Butcher's Best is a great addition to the area. We'll return often.
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

I am dogsitting this week for some friends who live in Prospect and decided to check out Butcher's Best. I agree with everything all of the previous posts refer to. Great variety of usually hard to find product. The staff is super friendly. I picked up some homemade turkey salad and Usingers sausage sticks. I started talking to the guy behind the counter about Usingers and the fact that I've actually visited their factory in Milwaukee. He told me that he can order anything I want from them and it would be here in just a few days. Being as they make over 100 sausages I am surely gonna keep this in mind.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.
