Bountiful Bread Closed

by Todd Pharris » Sat Aug 30, 2008 12:50 am

Bountiful Bread in Westport Village has closed. They stopped delivering bread to Liquor Barn a few days ago. I don't have any other details.

That's sad, and surprising ... no, they weren't Blue Dog, but every time I was in or around there they seemed busy. In fact, the whole Westport Village gig seemed to be on a roll. I wonder what happened there.

I can speculate that they closed because they could never get the service and management under control. Their food was quite good and the location was great but it seemed like every time we went in we always had a problem with our order. Most times it was made incorrectly the first time, was delivered cold or took forever. They help always seemed confused and never got the hang of things. We kept hoping they'd get more organized but sadly it never happened.

I drove by Bountiful Bread today. There was a sign posted stating that they were closing at 3pm on 8/29 in observance of the holiday weekend. Maybe they are not closed permanently.

Well, I guess they are closed. There's a blurb on the CJ site stating such.

Here's a link to the blurb. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbc ... 2/80902027

A co-owner actually states the reason why they closed shop.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

If it's in the CJ, it must be true.

Thank you, thank you, thank you ...

Note also that the CJ food people certainly scan this forum looking for food news leads ...

Glad to discover it was not just a rumor. I hate it when that happens and thanks to Hotbytes careful moderation, it rarely does. I actually had a discussion with a friend earlier today about the ramifications on this board, and the seemingly speculative nature of the OP, but the story unfolds...

There was nothing speculative about this. Someone from Bountiful Bread called Liquor Barn and said "We're closed. No more bread." I wrote "I don't have any other details" because I had no idea WHY they closed, but I knew they were closed or I wouldn't have posted it here.

Works for me, Todd. Thanks for doing it the right way. (No offense to Jackie, who makes good points about fact-checking before posting rumors ... but it simply wasn't applicable in this case.)

I'm sorry to see anyone go out of business, but the one and only time I ate there, the food was not memorable, and worst of all, for a bakery - the roll that came with my salad was stale. Never went back - maybe others had the similar experiences.

For better or for worse, it reminded me pretty much of a Panera Bread outlet, but it was a much smaller chain - if I remember correctly, the first attempted expansion of a bread company in Albany, N.Y.

Slightly mis-stated on my behalf. I wouldn't typically question Todd, just the general language used. It looked ugly for a second until the official confirmation. That was all. Just happy that no fellow forumites were hung and the story was solid. That's what I hate to see. I love a good gossip, but we all know...

I'll raise my glass to that ... a nice cool, not ice-cold glass of Sonoma-Cutrer 2006 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay!
