Any chance for a Rodízio in Louisville?

by Kyle L » Mon Aug 25, 2008 8:00 am

I went to my first Rodízio while in Vegas and enjoyed it. Any chance Louisville would be interested?

I am probably one of the few who does not know what a Rodizio is, please clue me in.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

I have a distinct feeling that Rodízio would do quite well in the Ville. One can only hope.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

Likewise ... let's have a linkie!

Okay, it's a Brazilian steakhouse ... definitely a coming trend. Still, it's a chain with a shtick. Maybe we should keep Louisville weird by inviting a Brazilian chef up here to open an indie? :D

I didn't eat at rodiziogrill. Still, it was a Brazillian steakhouse with the same theme. And, not a chain.

We ate at the Denver location of Rodezio Grill while visiting family and it was FANTASTIC! It is a very small chain, 2 locations and a third in progress. The Denver location is in a converted warehouse in LoDo, near the Tattered Cover book shop (think the old downtown Hawley Cook). It may be gimicky, but the food we had was all fresh, well flavored, varied and the service was great. We spoke to the manager about their expansion plans and how it could fit into the East Main/Market area. He passed it on and they did call us for information and numbers. That was over a year ago and I do not know what happened. Any quality restaurant of that type would be a great addition to the Louisville scene.

One of these Brazilian steakhouses is much the same as the next. I wouldn't get too hung up on Rodizio in particular. And all of the chains seem to be in expansion mode, working their way down the city list in population order. So I'd expect Rodizio and company to be on the way.

Because they serve it the same style?

I'd think each would taste different than the next; no matter how they served it.

There is Fogo de Chao in Indianapolis. I've been to the one in Philly, and it was excellent. Not exactly around the corner, but if you're up there, it's a chain with quality meats.

There is also Brazilian grill in Indianapolis which seems to have opened fairly recently. It seems like it might be an Indie.

I was in Dallas last week and saw three of these within a mile of each other. A friend and I were wondering if Louisville could support one. At $40/person I'm just not sure. Chain or not, Fago, Texas de Brazil, and Boi Noi Braza are all great experiences.

And yes, they are all virtually identical! The seasoning at the four I've been to have all been salt & pepper (nothing else), they have the same cuts of meat (one may have 14, one 17, but basically the same). The only difference I've seen is in the salad bars - one better than the next, but slightly different ingredients (one smoked salmon while another smoked shellfish; one broiled fish, another seafood stew; one bread you slice, another high-grade rolls).

I have been to the Fogo in Chicago 2-3 times and have loved the experience each time. Not something I would do weekly - but it would surely be a monthly outing for my wife and I. I was actually surprised to see one in Memphis when I was there last. Surely if Memphis can support one Louisville could as well...

My brother was just telling me about these types of places a few weeks ago. Definitely something I'll have to try when given the chance.
