Riding down to Hilton Head Island for a little beachfront R&R next week.....any suggestions for dining spots?

We think one of the nicest places to dine in Hilton Head is "The Old Fort Inn" be sure to schedule your dinner so you can watch sunset while you dine. Another place we always have a nice dinner is the "Sea Shack" it's a little hard to find but it's a place where many of the locals go and the food is excellent! Nothing fancy, you order at the counter and the food is brought to you.

We found one of the biggest disappointments recently is "Hudson's on the Docks" it used to be one of our favorite places to go for shrimp but it's gone downhill significantly and is now on our places to avoid list.

Some of the places we've enjoyed on the island are, Harold's Diner, for breakfast and lunch and the New York Diner both on the William Hilton Parkway. Aunt Chilada's for Mexican on Pope Ave. A little further down Pope in the Bi-Lo shopping center is a nice Cajun spot who's name escapes me. At Coligny Circle is Captain's Seafood and in Harbortown inside Sea Pines is the Crazy Crab. These are all casual, moderately priced places that have stood the test of time.

Alexander's in Palmetto Dunes is hands down our family favorite. Don't be fooled by the motorcycle motif. The food and wine are both fantastic.

Had a great dinner at 'Aqua', across from Coligony Square.

Upscale steak/seafood.

I've only been there once and don't know much about the dining scene. However, we LOVED the restaurant in the Hilton Resort. I think it was called Simply Seafood or something like that. The service was exceptional, the wine list good, and the seafood and steaks were top notch. It was such a surprise for a hotel restaurant. I still think about it! Try the Bouilliabaise (spelling?).

There is a little free dining guide you can pick up just about anywhere that literally has every restaurant, menu, etc on the whole island...

...makes for good beach reading, and will give you tons of ideas.

Charlie's Le Etouille Verte is by far the best food in Hilton Head - French Bistro food similar to Corbett's

Harold's Diner appears to be closed....visited the Crazy Crab location off Hwy 278 -- very good!

John

Harold's is usually only open for breakfast and lunch so they're normally closed by 3 P.M. I also believe they are closed on Sunday. Please tell me this is when you went by because my family will be crushed if that joint is gone. Thanks, hope you had a good time at the beach.

Paul....went biking past Harold's earlier today, and they DID appear to be open...so I stand corrected.

Would definitely recommend Marleys Island Grille which is on Office Park Road! It is an upscale casual restaurant with a Caribbean/Rasta theme. The seafood there is usually inventive and tasty. Don't miss the ice cream shop next door which is a perfect ending to a great diner. Have fun!

Just remembered the Sunset Grill which is at the RV Park on the North End. Don't let the fact that it is at an RV park turn you off, it is very nice, reasonably priced and has an AWESOME view at Sunset.
