Anyone know who's doing them this year? What are some of your favorites?

I've had many good ones, but Stevens & Stevens has always been best.

I wholeheartedly concur. Anything I get from there is always well above average and their consistency is almost unheard of these days.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

A Derby Box lunch is the food you buy to carry with you to the track on Derby Day, so that you don't have to buy the food at the track, or stand in line for it. Unless of course, you're on Millionaire's Row, then you won't have such problems. It really don't come in a box any more, but in a Churchill Downs approved clear plastic bag. Security and all that.

Do you guys think there is a market for vegetarian box lunches? I make some of these every year, but haven't really marketed them outside my guests. (I do have food service and catering licenses.)

Gourmet For Everyone Derby Boxed Lunches

by Deb Hall » Wed Apr 11, 2007 3:47 pm

Gourmet for Everyone will be doing boxed lunches for both Oakes and Derby. We finalized the 2007 menu last week : we will offer a choice of cold entree plus choice of two sides and a high-end dessert for $16.95. For something truly decadent, you can get our award-winning Bluegrass Black Bottom Bourbon Baba for dessert for a $ 3 up-charge. Lunches must be ordered by Monday, April 30th. I'll post the menu separately when I get a chance.

Little tip for all restaurants selling box lunches. Make something not messy and easy to eat without the need of utensils. Those box seats at Churchill are tiny, there is no place to set anything, and the last you want is a big glob of Henry Baines sauces on your brand new tie.

It just needs to be something that tastes good with bourbon.

Input on Lunches

by Deb Hall » Thu Apr 12, 2007 9:08 am

Ron,

Great input on the lunches! I believe we have it all covered, but I'll make sure to remind the staff to go easy on the sauce (sandwich not Bourbon 8).

Folks,

The Gourmet for Everyone Derby Boxed lunch menu is now on-line on our site at: http://www.gourmetforeveryone.com. Orders need to be in by Monday, April 30th.

We are also doing a Kentucky Cheese Box for both days: three local Kentucky cheeses along with cheese accompaniments (Marcona Almonds, Italian Salame, crackers and Fig-almond cake) all packed for the Track.
