Shah's Mongolian Grill

Near U of L. The sign went up earlier in the week, and when I drove by, the signs in the front windows announced today as the Grand Opening. Haven't been yet.

It's the same family as the Shah's (formerly 2 Hahns) in Stony Brook. Decent example of the Mongolian barbecue shtick - they face some competition from the BD's chain that's just now arriving on Hurstbourne, but we've always enjoyed it.

Are you saying BD's is already open, Robin? I'd hope so.

Not open yet. Still doing the build out from what I could see day before yesterday.

Just got back. And it was very good. And very inexpensive.

Pick 1 (tofu or meat) $4.95
Pick 2 $5.95
Pick 3 $6.95

Small soft drink $1.15
Large soft drink $1.35

That's the options. Tonight for their Grand Opening, it was $1 off.

You point to ingredients and they fill your bowl and then cook it on the usual big hot Mongolian grill and you get it back.

I had tofu with noodles, snow peas, peanuts and broccoli with a custom sauce. I asked the guy behind the counter to make a crazy hot, light it up sauce. He kept saying "are you sure" and I kept saying "go for it". I saw ginger water, curry powder, garlic sauce and a full spoon of red chili paste and about 6-8 other spoons and scoops of things go into my bowl. My lips started going numb at the third bite. It was perrrrrfect.

DH had noodles, chicken, broccoli, sno peas and a curry sauce. He gobbled it down and feared we'd never be able to get in the place again because it's going to be popular. Good food, fresh, tasty and cheap.

I assure you, Ed, that it's very much open and doing a vigorous business tonight.

Sorry Leah, I was responding to the question about BD's being open and I wasn't specific. Glad you enjoyed your meal at the fully open Shah's.

Where, exactly, Leah? I love Mongolian and will have to check them out since they are near me! Is it where Cafe Jerusalem was?

No, it's where Pizza Magia used to be, using traditional Louisville directions. :D

Near the corner of an expressway ramp to I65 north. down the street from the McDonalds, next to a Subway and a convenience store and across the street from The Lunch Pail.

According to the about-to-be-printed Spring edition of Food & Dining, the new Shah's is at 423 E. Warnock Street.

Giving directions with an actual address, Robin? You're gonna lose your "authentic Louisvillian" card!

Oops! It's just down the street from where Hippo Wings used to be.
