My Dad lives there part of the year now, so my wife and I make at least one, usually two trips a year there. Elizabeth and Olde Pink House are good options, but I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend A Vida Restaurant and Wine Bar. Great location on Broughton Street. See
http://www.avidarestaurant.com. Incredible menu, and VERY impressive wine selection, including wines by the glass. Definitely make reservations, even during the week.
A close second is definitely 45 Bistro at the Marshall House. That's the first good restaurant we dined at in Savannah, and love to go back.
The restaurant at the Mansion Hotel is also good, and as someone above said, Jazz'd Tapas is very good, but I really recommend dinner elsewhere, and then hit Jazz'd on a Friday or Saturday night for great music and dessert.
PLEASE visit the Mabel Francis Potter Cupcake Emporium on E. State Street (it's in the square where State and Bull Streets meet) - my step-mother runs it, and she definitely makes the best cupcakes you've ever had. For touristy value, it's in the location that used to house the flower shop depicted in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." Tell her Brad recommended, and I bet she'll pass along the family discount.
AND for the all important weekend brunch, don't pass up the Firefly Cafe in Troup Square. The food is phenomenal, and they have great outdoor seating if the weather is nice.
General recommendation - the further you get from River Street, the less touristy and more local things get. The bars that look like dives are where the locals go - the bright cheery "microbreweries" are touristy. My personal opinion - AVOID Lady and Sons. There is some sort of "I went there" value to it for newbies to Savannah, but the food leaves A LOT to be desired, and usually you'll wait forever to get in and pay too much. Most who have been do not recommend to others. If you must have the Paula Dean experience (or at least the family), her brother runs a seafood joint somewhere closer to Tybee, maybe a 15-20 minute drive from old Savannah. The decor sort of reminded me of a shabby Red Lobster, and the food was mediocre at best, but it was much better and cheaper than LAS, and you can say you ate at Paula's brother's place.
Enjoy Savannah. I'm missing it just as I'm writing this.
