A Heine Brothers Coffee on Every Corner?

by Ray W. » Wed Feb 06, 2008 7:36 am

A few days ago I was cruising down Bardstown Road and was pleasantly surprised to discover that a new Heine Brothers Coffee store with Drive-Thru service had opened up at the Gardiner Lane Shopping Center...Love their coffee!...That same day as I was driving down Shelbyville Road towards Lyndon and lo and behold...I see a Heine Brothers "Coming Soon" sign at the corner of Shelbyville Road and Thierman Lane...That's a location that I frequent a lot so I'm really looking forward to that opening...Nothing against Starbucks (Lord knows I love those Frappuccino Four Packs) but's It's good to see some new and diffrent coffee store options in this fair city...BTW La Vida Java in Westport Village is also becoming one of my favorite coffee destinations...Those folks make a great mocha!...

There's a new Heine Brothers coming to Shelbyville Road by Sears Avenue as well.

I wrote about Heine Brothers recent expansions on Consuming Louisville and Mike Mayes left a really interesting and insightful comment about it.

I'm more of a follower than a leader here so I mostly post to topics and don't start many new ones. I'll try to be more outgoing in the future.

No problem, Michelle! I'm just saying that news about local eats and eateries is always worth a post. :)

I dont know how I feel about them opening so many stores in such a small area. It ALMOST (please note the stress on almost) comes off like them doing exactly what I hate about starbucks, over saturation.

It's not that I dont want our local brethren to succeed I do, I just dont want to see them morph into something I despise already.

Of course I dont do coffee anyways so my 2 cents is worth a lot less than others on this subject.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

I think it's great that the local is taking on the corporate giant! I for the life of me do not understand the Starbuck's success. I truely hope Heine Bros. chase them out of town.

Good luck with that! I used to be a big Seattle's Best Coffee fan and from what I understand SBC has been around longer than StarBucks. StarBucks bought out SBC and the quality quickly changed IMHO. If you can't beat'em, buy'em out...

Now if only we could get one in Indiana or in downtown...or both. I miss Highland since they left fourth street.

I love love love the new Gardiner Lane location! Having a 2yo in tow it has been a great convenience for days when I'm headed to the Watterson and need a caffeine fix. They're very efficient and friendly.

I only really ever go to the Crescent Hill location, which I really like. It certainly has more the feel of the neighborhood coffee shop instead of a chain. I'm not sure how the others locations are. Too many locally owned competitors across the country cloned the Starbucks model, alas, and have stores that effectively repeat the pattern. Caribou (a Minneapolis chain that expanded regionally) is a good example of this. At least based on the Crescent Hill store, Heine hasn't done that.

Heine Bros coffee is far superior to Starbucks.

I've been to all of the currently open Heine Brothers, including the new one at Gardiner Lane and think they've done a really good job at keeping the atmosphere comfortable and welcoming at each location. I'm particularly fond of the feel of the Douglass Loop store and the Gardiner Lane store. At the new one that will share a building with Papa John's I wonder what the atmosphere will be like and if it will be a duel between the scent of coffee and baking pizza...

I wonder if they will have the Lotsa Pasta paninis at the one by Papa Johns...
