Favorite Atmosphere

by carla griffin » Sat Jan 12, 2008 11:14 am

You've all experienced it... a good meal with fine service marred only by the fact that you feel you were eating in someone's basement or some other equally icky place. Or maybe the reverse, the feel of the restaurant is so appealing that you remember you had a good meal and a great time but forget exactly what you ate. (And no, I'm not talking about those menopause moments I sometime experience!)
What restaurants have dining areas that actually add to the dining experience for you?
My favorites are/sometimes were, the old Hickory House on Taylorsville Rd with the tiny back room with the slated roof. The Hearthstone Tavern, which did feel like a basement but in a cool way. Artemesia's patio. Mike Lennings' outdoor picknic feel. The old Victoria Station with the highback wooden booths in train cars.

This is where jack Fry's really excels. No room in town has more energy. It is full of the aroma of good food, the sound of happy people, and just a great vibe. As soon as I walk in that room I feel happy.

My neighborhood Waffle House where they all know me by name. Also, the Winner's Circle at Humana where I feel like I am part of the family. And, Shiraz on Frankfort. I think they have adopted me.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

Havana Rumba. It's completely disarming and comfortable, making you forget what city you're in and focus on the smells coming from the kitchen and delivery to surrounding tables. Colors and decorations give me the vibe of a place in manhattan we dined in, sans chair crowding.

That place brings back about a million and one fond memories for me, from one of my first "real" dates to a great anniversary for my parents and everything in between. Thanks for the memories. :D

Here is Louisville my vote would go to Le Relais inside and out. I love watching planes go by as I eat.

I've always liked the atmosphere at any B.D.'s I've been to.

As for around here, we're fondly treated at the Famous Dave's in Clarksville.

I have to say Seviche (Bardstown Rd.). It's fun and modern, but still very romantic. Or maybe I'm just biased... I was proposed to this evening (1/12) on the sidewalk outside of the restaurant after having dinner there.

Seviche was a very romantic site for our first date, and it was a very romantic site for the beginning of our marriage!

I adore all of the restaurants that have been named in this thread thus far, but....

Congratulations Lindsay!! A group of us were dining at Seviche, sitting by the window and saw the whole event. The whole restaurant exploded when the event occurred. Best wishes on your new lives together.
