Dustin Staggers to open 24 hour diner

by Mark R. » Fri Feb 20, 2015 11:37 am

Another one of our local chefs is on the move again opening new restaurants at breakneck speed like Fernando is. This time it's Dustin and he's not going to open a 24 hour diner called "America the Diner" on Cherokee Road. Here's a story from business first today: Chef Dustin Staggers opening new Highlands diner.

Having a great 24 hour diner is something that Louisville has really been needing, hope this meets my expectations.

Awesome! I'm not going to open a lot of new restaurants too! Announcements to follow!

Seriously, doesn't Dustin have his hands full already?

I welcome the addition. Our options for 24-hour dining are basically food poisoning from a place or two on Bardstown, or Denny's and its ilk.

I can certainly tell you that I for one am looking forward to it! Every place else I've ever lived had a great local 24 hour diner and that's something I've certainly missed since moving here! I hardly consider Denny's, IHOP etc. to be viable options.

Last I knew it was still open. It's not very wheelchair friendly however.

No one will ever need the Twig & Leaf or Barbara Lee's Kitchen again. Waffle House? That depends on how well Dustin does with hash browns.

He'll certainly have to take lessons on the covered, scattered, chunked, smothered sections of the menu anyway!

Not very friendly, period. When I broke the story about CVS wanting to take it over and asked for a quote from the owner, he refused to talk to me. Some months later, I had a craving for onion rings and attempted to walk in. The place was empty and the owner was in the corner and yelled, 'GO AWAY!' Hey, yeah, you're welcome. Needless to say, I never set foot in the place again.

Best of luck to Dustin. You've got a good vibe there at the old Clothes Encounter. :D

Wow! I haven't had that experience there yet, but I can say for sure it seems to be closed a lot, and the last two times I've eaten there it was completely empty. I did have good service, though.

Washed many a basket there, and even remember wandering around when the greenhouse had real plants(Botanical Gardens days :) )

In it's day the Twig was great (in the context of a greasy spoon diner), and it was a late night oasis for many. Then it became not so good. Looks like Staggers has seized upon an opening in the Louisville dining scene. Please have cheese fries.

Read an article today that local residents and a nearby church are "voicing concerns". I think it was in the CJ.
