Best local spots (other than home) to watch Super Bowl?

by Robin Garr » Wed Jan 28, 2015 12:50 pm

I'm inclined to favor kicking back at home for Super Bowl XLIX, and private parties in people's homes are also worthy. But let's say one wants to go to a public eatery or watering hole to watch the Seahawks pummel the Deflaters. Tell us your favorites! Also, are restaurants doing any special Super Bowl programs?

BW3 is always good for watching big games. Though for some reason I do not believe you will take me up on that suggestion, Robin.

I actually do go there for some UL games and stuff, one of the few places you will see the whole restaurant cheering when a big game is on. Regarding the super bowl though, i don't know that I have ever watched that at restaurant or bar in my entire life. Don't most people stay home that day? Might be fun if there are some seahawks or patriots bars locally. I don't know if we have those though.

So basically i just typed all this for nothing.

No, it's all good, Jason. 8)

I'm reasonably sure that I'll stay home, too. But it crossed my mind that some people who don't go to big parties might want to enjoy the noisy fun of watching with a crowd.

On the other hand, given that it's a Sunday night, I wonder if some places might just shut down (or decline to open during normally closed hours), figuring the scene will be dead.

We'll be at a friends', as that's where we were when the 'Hawks won it all last year, so superstition dictates we must do the same thing this year.

The closest thing to a Seahawks spot would be Coal's, no? Those good folks are Seattleites and Seahawk fans.

Champps used to be the best place in town to catch a "big game", alas they are closed. Buffalo Wild Wings is -okay- lots of TV's etc but the place can be a little too "kid friendly" for my tastes. I've watched a few games at Old Chicago and found that to be an enjoyable place. Rooties is a great place to watch sports and the food is pretty good as well. Boombozz in Westport and Brownies are also sports friendly.

After being in sports bars for so long I can tell you with confidence that any place that sells wings is going to have their B or even C team on the schedule that night, considering it is Sunday, a day when typically the best staff are given a chance to rest. Also most wing places are so slammed with to go's before the game that they usually don't have enough time to catch up and reset before the dinner crowd comes in. I have also worked at some small places that never see more than a few guests show up for the game. My advice is to call around and find out how many tables they have before the game, that will give you a good indication of what is actually going on.

During the playoffs, championships, SB I usually leave home and walk to local spots. Monkey Wrench has good food & excellent bar as well as an OK screen arrangement. Re: Steve P, there are a number of BW3 around but at the one within walking distance of our house I have never seen a minor, so it must vary by location. Admittedly I only go there for the multiple excellently arranged screens during the heat of the late NFL season so don't see what happens the rest of the year. They have hands down the best arrangement to watch six to eight games at a time during playoffs. Food is just OK on an Applebee's level, let's say. Highlands Tap Room & Grill was jammed for the Seahawks vs. Pack. Very good menu & libations for mainly a bar. Actually this will be the 21st year I've been at the Back Door for the SB. OK, have had a couple of interruptions but in truth always regretted I hadn't been at home (i.e, the Back Door). SB at the BD is the same as being home for Xmas to me. Hard to beat the "Cheers" atmosphere and the highly competent execution on their menu items. With a bunch of pool tables to tide some of us through Katy Perry & duller commercials, no competition I know of. I'd like to hear of some, though, just to mix it up through the NFL season in general. Bring it on, folks!

Looks like we will be watching at home. The menu is set and K will have Sam Adams in honor of Tom Brady (not the Deflatriots - just Tom Brady).

I will be pulling for the Seahawks. Is there a locally available beer brewed in Seattle or Washington (or the PNW in a pinch)??

Redhook, I guess. It was a great local brewpub when I was there in 1989. Now it's a Budweiser plantation. (I'm not sure of the exact setup ... it may be distribution rather than outright ownership. But still, it's no longer a "micro.")

I'm thinking about Big Four Burgers and Beer on Spring.

Bloody Marys all day? I'm there, forget the game. :D

Thank you. I bought some for our little party and to send positive vibes to the Seahawks. Alas, it did not prevent them from passing on 2nd and goal from inside the 5 yard line with one of the most highly rated running backs in the NFL. :x

Pete Carroll walks into a bar. Bartender asks if he'd like a Super Bowl. Pete Carroll: "No thanks, I'll pass."
