Pizza Tangent - Best you've had ANYWHERE.

by MikeG » Thu Dec 20, 2007 11:12 am

My hands down grand champion for the moment is Minneapolis' Pizza Luce. If they ever go national and open here, I'll probably never leave that place.

Outside of that Gino's East in Chicago was very good, and welcome reprieve for Chicago style with me after a disappointing visit to Giordano's.

Then of course comes our own beloved Rich-O's.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

I think for pure quality, Impellizzeri's is right there with anyone.

For pure taste, My favorite though is Slice of CHicago in Lexington, KY. I've had Lou Malnati's & Gino's, and I think SOC is just as good...

It's been five years since I have been and it's possible my tastes have changed, but I say Mother Bear's Pizza in Bloomington. That stuff was so tasty.

Wind River Pizza in Pinedale, WY. Truly the best I have ever eaten!

About twenty-five years ago, my younger son and I shared a very thin crust, whole-wheat pizza, with white sauce covered in shrimp, clams, and mussels at a tavern across the street from the Pike Street Market. Unfortunately, it hasn't been there for a least the last six years, but both of us fondly remember this as the "hands-down-best-pizza" we have ever tasted.

I've never made it out to DiFara since it looks to be about a 45 minute subway ride. I have been to DeMarco's, which I understand to be owned by a relative of the DiFara guy and is in Manhattan to boot. It was pretty solid.

My favorite pizza is the stuffed spinach and mushroom with garlic from Bacino's in Chicago.

The whole DeMarco v. DiFara's thing is pretty convoluted, safe to say the two are now not affiliated in any way. DeMarcos, does make a decent pie though. You should try 28 Carmine and Una Pizza Napoletana in Manhattan. The train ride out to DiFara's is really not that bad, and the stop is literally next door to the restaurant. It's worth the trek.

The best pizza I've ever had is that Bay & Goodman Pizza in Rochester New York! A great foldable New York crust with homemade spicy pepperoni and just the perfect amount of cheese. The place isn't much on atmosphere but the pizza makes up for it. It's a must stop at place for every visit to Rochester!

Does anyone know how much Hero's or Luigi's charges for a slice of pizza?!?!

Just curious! We just got back from NJ/NY area and food at the local pizza shops is SO much cheaper than it is here......

well at least compared to spinelli's it is.....a slice up there goes for $1.50-$1.99 - NEVER saw it for more.

For Deep dish it's the original Unos in Chicago (about a decade ago - it's not so good now - http://www.flickr.com/photos/glynnis/446779493/)

For thin crust it's L'antica Pizzeria "da Michele" in Napoli, Italy. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kanoa/273477376/
