Great fish sandwiches at non-fish eateries

by Robin Garr » Tue Dec 11, 2007 11:07 am

Who's got the best?

In this case we are NOT looking for the classic fish houses but restaurants - white tablecloth or bistro - that just happen to have a truly great fish sandwich among a broader set of offerings.

Tell us your favorites!

Has to be a sandwich? Fish is good at irish Rover. Salmon burger is good, also. Does that count?

Flannigan's has an excellent fish sandwich ( and great tartar sauce). It is beer battered. Bob is headed there as I type. Also, Jack's sea bass sandwich is delicious. Like Leah, my first thought was BNA!!! Maybe the fish will resurface when Dave does :D

This is speculative, but I had one of the best crabcakes I've ever had the other night at Varanese. Came with a Cilantro-Lime Creme Freche...

He has a 'Crab Cake Sandwich' on the menu that I can only imagine is bonkers.

Ramsi's

by Dan L. » Tue Dec 11, 2007 12:32 pm

Ramsi's, Selma's Favorite Fish Sandwich. Creole-spiced grouper filet fried and topped with lettuce and homeade tartar. Not my favorite menu item there, but I used to order it somewhat regularly when the downtown location was still around.

What's not good? The tuna steak sandwich. It sounded great on the menu. Blackened tuna steak topped with a mango sesame ginger relish on cuban bread. The relish and bread were good but the tuna was flavorless.
