A Really Good Tiramisu or Stuffed Pizza

by Sue H » Thu Dec 05, 2013 9:15 am

As the wintery weekend approaches, I want to snuggle on the sofa with some of my all time favorite cravings. First, does anyone serve stuffed pizza in Louisville?

Secondly, who serves the best Tiramisu in the city. I have come across a few; but, they were less than desireable.

Be safe this weekend!

Sue, I'm not a huge dessert fan ... as a professional eater I need to watch calories, as food critics who fail to do this end up serving second careers floating over the city with bit ads on their sides at Derby time.

But that said, I'm sure that I've had (or companions have had and let me share bites) outstanding tiramisu at Volare and, I think, Marketplace. Maybe Varanese too? DiFabio's?

This may come as a surprise, but Queen of Sheeba has an awesome Tiramisu...one of my favorites.

...along the same lines, my wife also loves their Chocolate Cake.

May not seem like a "dessert" kind of place, but the ones we've had there have been awesome.

One of my favorites is the Refrigerator pizza at NABC Public House(AKA Rich O's/Sportstime)

Lotsa Pasta has a really good tiramisu, and so does Cafe Lou Lou.

The fried pizza from Boombozz reminds me a bit of double crust pizza- the only double crust pizza I've seen is Sbarro's (which wasn't bad when I had it a long time ago, but it's sad that's the only place I've seen it!)

We frequently get stuffed pizza from Papa Murphy's. You have to bake it yourself, of course. I brought one home recently to share with neighbors, who cooked it in their Big Green Egg. Yum! (At some point I may have to start a discussion thread on kamado grills because I am wanting one and trying to decide between the Costco version and the much pricier BGE.)

Having sold BGE's for the better part of two years, if those are your only two considerations then DEFINITELY the BGE...better quality, better warranty, more accessories than anything coming out of Costco, Lowes, etc. HOWEVER...ya might also consider a Primo Grill. Similar to the BGE in terms of quality, warranty and accessories (and also made in America) BUT it has an oval shape (as opposed to round) which gives you a significant bump in grilling surface...

You can check out the Primos right there in Prospect at: http://www.cherryvalleyspas.com/

as for the BGE, Brownsboro Hardware is the way to go...

If it's me...and money is no object, I'm plopping down $1400 bucks for THIS Mac-daddy by Primo.

I swear I'm not trying to jerk you around  but in that photo that thing looks an awful lot like a big Weber kettle with a bunch of accessories and Jack Daniels bling.

I believe GFS Market Place has Tiramisu. Not bad and you can save it in your freezer.

Well, anyone who can claim to be "the Daddio of the Patio" must have some real credibility in the outdoor grill dept.! (I wanted to say has some serious "chops" but afraid the pun might be too subtle). Thanks for the input on the Primo; I had not heard of it. I will note that the Vision grill sold at Costco has some very good reviews and yes, Brownsboro Hardware is the bomb.

Gotta second Carole's comments about the stuffed pizza from Papa Murphy's. It's really, really good! But my fav is the cracker-thin DeLite crust with the white garlic sauce, grilled chicken, artichokes and bacon. (I hold the mozzarella and substitute my own fat-free mozzarella cheese.)

The staff at Papa Murphy's preps all of the fresh ingredients themselves, in the store. Grating cheese, making dough, chopping veggies, etc. And they'll gladly build your pie exactly to your specs.

Robin, I think it's the shiny black finish throwing ya off...Nothing "Weber" at all about this grill (nothing wrong with Webers though...I own 5 of 'em...down from my high of 8 ). Primos, like BGE's and others are solid ceramic and this particular model weighs in at around 250 pounds.
