Best place to watch UofL football game Friday w/ GOOD Beer?

by Ellen P » Sat Nov 02, 2013 11:39 am

Of course, I don't mean buckets of bud lite.
We'll go almost anywhere - probably not Lexington
Could be 10- 12 of us. We will eat and drink and tip.
Don't yell, but it can be a chain - local or national.
This question might help for list of any future game watches too.
(Sully's is the 'official' UofL away game watch place - I don't think so.)
We watch 95% of away games at home so we need a list.
Thanks!

Thanks for all the great tips  I was looking for somewhere new/hidden gem, etc. Somewhere you drive by everyday but forget that it has lots of tvs and good local beers. (Kerns doesn't have any. Our older daughter and her husband took us there because we've never been there. Also on my list before I die because they've been there since I was little: Bambi Bar, Air Devil's Inn, Golden Nugget - my father's bookie was there:-)

Checked out the new Roosters in Middletown but they only had two local beers - Falls City and Bourbon Barrel Ale.
Mushroom and Drakes seem promising. We'll go anywhere. I'll let the younger folks decide:-)
We have always gone to BBC St. Matthews. Also, Highlands Boombozz. Watched the Southern Miss game last year at Apocalypse gathered around a rv. Hopefully we can do that again.

Ellen,
I would recommend Hilltop Tavern on Frankfort as an awesome place to watch UofL games. Plenty of tvs (including a large projector screen) and a great variety of beer on tap. Their food is great too.

Both Café Lou Lou locations have TV's in the bar and dining area, and darn good beers. DD

I drive by that place in the evenings sometimes and it's always packed.

Thanks everyone for the new ideas. I haven't stopped at Hilltop Tavern spot since it was the bbq place and before that Cafe Lou Lou. Heard great things about their food from family and reviews. (Special place in my heart for Irish Hill. My family moved here in the 30s from Ohio County and before settling on Morton, lived on Hull and Pope. They went to the James Lee Presbyterian Church on Frankfort. My younger daughter lives on Spring:-)

Against the Grain is a great place to watch a game. it doesn't attract the typical ball game crowd but they have a number of large televisions, very good food, lots of space and awesome beers.

Against the Grain. Yes. Good one. Forgot about them. These have been great places.
We have found a place that is going to set up a game watch/tailgating atmosphere for us.

Here's one:

JGumbo's, U of L location. They've a beverage program now that includes Abita beer. Big Screens. Right next to the games with the whole college feel. And so affordable.

It's a fun venue and some spicy Cajun cuisine to warm the tummy.

The question that keeps popping in to my mind....Why on earth would anyone waste good beer watching an overrated second tier team. :?

Steve, just because they haven't been on probation like Ohio State doesn't make them second tier.

No, the fact that they lose to Directional Florida teams makes them second-tier. :D

Actually, just going into a contest between a directional Florida team and calling it a "big game" makes 'em second tier....and as far as the no probation/sanction thing goes...well you can thank the botched NCAA investigation into Clint Hurtt and his unique little recruiting methods for that little gift from heaven.

Who called it a big game?
