Two Churrascarias on 4th St in 12 hrs!

by James Natsis » Thu Oct 31, 2013 5:05 pm

Louisville has not been known to be a trend setter, but I venture to guess that we will be the first city to offer two Churascarias in one block--14,000 sp ft's worth. 4th St va falar Portuguese! See link below.

It would only get better if Fourth Street Live got two gigantic Chinese buffets!

I'm looking at this from a positive perspective. I mean it COULD have been two Vegan restaurants.

Yeah! Carnivores rejoice! I'm a big fan of the Fogo De Chao in Indy and really enjoy the "meat parade" concept. I'll be curious to see what happens to the glut of high end steak places downtown that have ala carte menus and $45+ steaks. Now they will have to compete against a couple of all you can eat concepts that include nice salad bar and sides for less than the price of a 20oz. Ribeye at most of these places.

Great concept and long overdue. But two at once? Were these people aware of this while negociating? I hope they all survive and central downtown thrives. However. . .

It is the same reason CVS and Walgreens appear at the same intersection so often. They both determined it's a good place to put a store.

I love a good medium rare steak as much as anybody but I would also love to see more vegetarian /vegan options as well. Earlier in the month we attended the Feast at the Root Cellar and had some of the most delicious entrees with not a bit of meat , they had a few that also had meat but have to say my favs were the vegetarian ones. So this being said I would love more opportunities to explore the vegetarian cuisine when dining out.

We've been wanting and needing a restaurant like this for a long time. When the 1st one was announced by Cordish for 4th Street Live didn't and doesn't interest me for many reasons especially because of who is putting it in and secondly because of the location. I wonder how much it is going to cost the legal taxpayers? The other one in the Embassy Suites building sounds more interesting, the restaurant is a well-known entity and the location is more accessible without worrying about the drunks. Carnivores all over Louisville should be rejoicing.

More seriously, Brazilian beef is almost invariably free-ranging and grass-fed. I wonder what the odds are that these corporate eateries will maintain a commitment to quality beef. I'll bet a tofu-and-beef sandwich that it's all industrial/CAFO/feedlot meat.

Hey BevP, my cousin (a restauranteur) is a vegan who loves churrascarias because of the crazy salad bars. They always have an option for people to just get the salad bar for around $15-ish or thereabouts.

Robin, good point on the meat. American churrascarias are never as good as the ones in Brazil. That said, I'm surprised it took this long to get one in Louisville. I remember hearing like ten years ago that the most profitable restaurants in Memphis and Birmingham were churrascarias, and figured it was just a matter of time before every city in the region had them. Kinda weird that we're getting a branch of one that opened in freaking Knoxville before here.

I'm going to step out on a limb here and suggest that my initial snark-reference to Chinese Buffets was conscious and intentional. Right now, these things look hot. But in a sophisticated food town like Louisville (yeah, even the suburbs  ), I don't think their crowd appeal is going to last.

I disagree. While we do have a great dining scene here in the Louisville, the vast majority of the local dining public are just looking to stuff thier maws with whatever they percive to be the best "bang for the buck" so to speak. when they make their dining out choices. There is a reason why places like Cheddar's, Golden Corral and the ever ubiquitous Olive Garden are always packed.

I would go out on a pretty long limb here and suggest that the majority of the folks that frequent these places would probably never dream of setting foot in a place like Volare, Corbett's, Jack Fry's(insert your favorite local higher end eatery) because they correctly percive them as being "expensive" to the average diner. The true dining experience that most of us on this forum understand, enjoy for what it really is and are willing to pay for, is lost on these people because they can spend 12 bucks a person at Olive Garden, stuff themselves silly and waddle out to their cars with a bag full of leftovers to eat the next day.

On the other hand, I would safely wager that a good number of them probably wouldn't have any problem plunking down $35-$45 for an all you can eat meat extravaganza!

Not to mention the fact that that we do have quite a few conventions that come to town, that this sort of thing would be very appealing to the attendees. For example, The Farm Machinery Show, FFA(who are back in town right now), Heavy Equipment and Mid American Truck Show are attended by large groups of mostly red blooded, 'Merican, flesh eating men.
