SNOW !!! (Means Comfort Food)

by Steve P » Thu Oct 24, 2013 4:20 pm

OK, I know this is crazy talk...but I swear it is actually snowing up here in Garage Logic. Kentucky. Third week in October. Snow. What's up with THAT ? Good thing the kids are on fall break lest they would probably be canceling school about right now.

Anyway. To tie this sad state of affairs to food. The subject is "Comfort Food". Discuss.

OK...I'll go first. Where I come from in N.E. Ohio THIS is comfort food. Cabbage Rolls (of which my lovely bride makes the best on the planet...and I have witnesses) and Pierogi (which we import directly from N.E. Ohio).

Man, my godmother makes galumpkies and pierogie every year for her christmas party and it's always awesome.

For me comfort food has gotten so mixed up with all our various offerings here in town, I'm down with some good solid meatloaf, or a big bowl of pho(one of our nurses mother is coming to town and I always get invited to family dinner when she makes pho, it's great)

Comfort food for cold weather- I go for lots of homey homemade soups and stews, with great bread ( preferably Blue Dog). Maybe Tuscan bean or beef bourguignon- yum!

Becky's Cabbage Rolls are the very best ever!!! Do I count as a witness  My contribution to the winter weather was a huge pot of vegetable soup--yummy![/quote]

I always want Mexican food when it snows. What's up with that?

This week I've made both Chicken & Dumplings and we had Taco night at our house. I'm thinking a pot of chili is in order for the weekend once I finish off those leftovers. :D

Either home made split pea soup or white beans and corn bread.

Cabbage Rolls by another name...and yes, my wife makes the best :D

A couple of years ago we did a "Polish Fest" potluck at our house for a few of we "Byters" with an appreciation of of eastern European fare...the food was to -die- for.

I haven't had the privilege to have a "Becky Cabbage Roll".....But I can be certain if they are 1/4 as good as your ribs, they have to be outstanding! I'll trot out my version any time for comparison, just to be sure though.......Go Steelers :D

If you were willing to (say) offer up your Red Beans and Rice recipe (which were BTW the best I've ever had), along with (say) your Bleu Cheese Cole Slaw recipe I might be able to facilitate a swap for said Cabbage Roll (Galumki) recipe. You already have my recipe for ribs....Sans the secret stuff I did to them while you were busy power napping 8) Go Browns.

With some big rain coming instead of snow, I may need to go towards my New Orleans roots.
