Brasserie Provence on North Hurstbourne

by Rich S » Thu Jul 11, 2013 4:31 pm

Does anyone know anything about a planned restaurant called Brasserie Provence? It just got a liquor license to operate at 150 N. Hurstbourne Parkway, which I believe is the old Tony Roma's location.

I went by there today and met the owner--a Frenchman named Guy. It is indeed in the Tony Roma's location. He plans on opening around Labor Day. He also said that pricing will be very accessible.

What an evolution in French cuisine in such a short time. It was just a few years ago that Le Relais stood alone. Now we have Louis le francais, La Coop, Ghyslain (twice), and soon to add Brasserie Provence.

Guy Genoud is the former Assistant General Manager of the Brown Hotel and former Food & Beverage Director of the Downtown Marriott and a native of Provence, France. This as always been his dream to own his own restaurant and he promises that this will fill a void for this type of French cuisine. He is very passionate about food and I am looking forward to his finished result.

This is wonderful news! And a major plus to the area. Excites me even more since it is right down the street from me!

Hopefully it will be as good as it sounds like it will be! It's certainly a type of restaurant much-needed in Louisville, there's really nothing much like it in the market. The owner thoroughly sounds like he has the credentials to make it work.

Wow- definitely caught my interest! ( I was going to guess it was a chain a la MiMi's given the location).
We live right up the street and would love to support if it's accessibly priced. Any news on menu, David? Are they true Brasserie or also a patisserie ( I'm in big trouble if the second  )

Our office complex is just down the road at Williamsburg Plaza and we have seen activity there recently - painting & contractor vehicles in front. Anyone on the board have info on a menu or opening date?

My drive by was Sept 11 2013. One of the articles mentions them looking at a mid-Sept opening.

the website is operational again: http://brasserieprovence.com/

I expect there'll be more news soonish...

Their menu is now on-line, and my excitement is lessened . . . check out http://brasserieprovence.com/menu . . . note the links aren't working fully, so I hope this is just a test posting and not the true menu!

Appetizers mainly in low-mid $20's (salad for $24?)

Dinner for $30-40+

Lunch multi-course tasting menu $50; lunch truffle tasting menu $250

I had thought that brasseries were supposed to be inexpensive, but guess I was wrong big-time!

A few years ago Limestone (just down the road a piece from them) reinvented itself with smaller portion sizes and slightly lower prices, and they were way below this level. I wish him well, but don't have high hopes . . .

Andrew, thanks for the posting, I've been looking forward to seeing the menu but after seeing it my hopes of this becoming a regular restaurant for us have been rapidly dashed! Like you, I've always seen the menu of a brasserie being relatively inexpensive and more common. This menu however is over the top and certainly too expensive to consider for a regular dining experience.

Like you, I wish him the best but based on the sampling don't expect the response to this restaurant to be overwhelming.

YIKES! That is painful to look at. $20+ for starters?

Now, I can go along with the pricing on the entrée menu...it seems more in line. And the "BLACK TRUFFLE" tasting menu for lunch for $250....I see that not selling all over the place.

Hopefully the powers that be will see the error of their way and adjust accordingly. Crossing fingers and praying to Julia Child's spirit for divine interventions.
