How to get Yuengling here in Louisville?

by Adam C » Thu Jun 27, 2013 8:48 am

I know they don't distribute it here but what should I do? Call and harass local distributors until they start selling it? Who should I call? It seems way more of a "political" thing than just oh please carry this awesome beer I like.. something stinks here. I am wondering if bigger players are at play to not allow us Kentuckians to have Yuengling. I am confused and tired of asking people who go to Ohio or Tennessee or any where else to get me a couple of cases. It should be here. Please help!

There's no great conspiracy at work and harassing distributors will not help make Yuengling available. The reality is that the Brewery itself decides which markets it wants to be in. Because the brewery has grown rapidly, they have been slow to expand into additional markets - preferring instead to maintain supply for their current customers. If you really want to see the brand (or any brand) available here, I recommend reaching out to the brewery and telling them how much you'd like to see it. If they perceive enough interest and demand they may expand their distribution footprint - provided it doesn't constrain supply for existing markets.

All that said, I'm pretty sure Yuengling is considering Kentucky to be one of the next markets they enter. I wouldn't be shocked if it happens in the next year or so.

I always pick up a case or two when we're in TN.

My apologies for taking this a bit off track..but on the off chance there may be other like-minded individuals frequenting this forum I'll just throw this out there...Yuengling is produced by a company who's owners are decidedly ANTI-Union...which, for some people...myself included, is kinda-sorta-pretty-much a deal breaker. Sorry for the interruption and please continue to enjoy your freedom of choice.

Sad to hear they have labor trouble/issues. I am sure a lot of smallish biggish brewery's businesses are faced with a lot of uncomfortable decisions and the recent hike in payroll taxes makes it worse. I am not condoning, because I have no clue what is going on with them but... I do love that beer though.

An ice cold bucket of Yuengling and two dozen steamed blue crabs please!

I confess I am a sucker for "cheap local shittty pilsners". Where is Louisville's Natty Boh or Sterling (RIP)?

Yuengling is the best porch beer. There I said it.

There was a time that i liked Yuengling as a porch/lawnmower beer. It seems that over the last year or two, they have become even lighter and a significant metallic taste has appeared. I thought that it might be due an increase of my IPA intake affecting my perception. However, I recently enjoyed a ("gifted")PBR after some yardwork and i remember a time that I'd take a Yuengling over a PBR any day. Anyone else?

Sterling is actually back. But in the Falls City method, it is now a premium priced craft beer. Draft only for now, being brewed by Upland in Bloomington. I've heard of plans for 16oz cans but not for a while.

There is no conspiracy keeping Yuengling out of KY. Trust me, distributors and retailers are tired of fielding the question too. Ohio just got the brand last year, and its one of the biggest beer markets in the East. The reason Ohio and Tennessee get it and not Kentucky is not because they simply skip over us, but rather that their main brewery is in PA which supplies OH. And they have a second brewery in Tampa FL that supplies TN. Yuengling will be here soon, but there's really nothing you can do to speed the process up. It's in the best interest of the brewery to supply and develop existing markets before expanding to new ones. The same goes for New Belgium (makers of fat tire). KY wholesalers and retailers get asked for this brand constantly but no news yet. Heck, Dogfish head pulled out of 3 markets including IN due to supply shortages. One exciting beer brand that WILL be here very soon is Sweetwater from Georgia. Check them out if you haven't already. In the meantime your current method is your only option. Stock up when out of state, ask a friend or family member to bring some, or have someone send you some ($$$).

Cheers!

For the last year and a half, I have heard that they are coming. Same thing with New Belgium. I firmly believe new belgium will be here when they get the Asheville brewery up and running.

I know Yuengling built new facilities recently. I would imagine they will be here at some point also.

DFH pulled out of 4. Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Rhode Island. And they just announced that they will be back in them before the end of 2013.

Yuengling has more than the standard pale lager. When we're in Columbus, OH, I've sometimes picked up their Porter or their Black & Tan. They're not bad, especially given the price tag.

Just to mention, Hudepohl amber lager is also tasty for the price in Cincy. Jungle Jim's had it in May for, if I recall, $13 or $14 for a 24-case in cans.

I read the titile of this thread to my hubby and he visibly cringed. Several years ago we visited friends in PA who raved about this beer. We spent a weekend trapped in their house with a kegerator filled with Yeungling. I don't know if it was skunky or it was just that God awful, but we have never recovered from the experience and still die a little inside when we see it out in our travels.

OK...so I was trying to make nice before but...what the hell...Thank you GOD for a fellow traveler. Personally I get a full body shudder just thinking about this stuff. I would rather drink water from the Love Canal than pour this crap in my mouth. It's like Coor's was back in the 70's...ya can't get it, so ya want it...the more you want it, the more you got to have it...Oh, and once you have it, you wonder why.
