Recommend me a restaurant in the South End?

by Missi N » Fri Mar 01, 2013 4:40 pm

Hello, everyone- Longtime lurker, first time poster. I live out in Valley Station, and the dining options around here are a bit slim. (I'd kill for a good Indian restaurant in my area, or better pizza.) So I'll ask here: What are your favorite restaurants in the South End? I'm hoping I've overlooked something and that you'll surprise me.

Missi, I like the Frontier Diner and Mexico Tipico on Dixie, Tuscany on New Cut in the Walmart shopping center, and all the Vietnamese restaurants in South Louisville near Iroquois Park, including Vietnam Kitchen in the Iroquois Manor shopping center and Annie Cafe on Woodlawn.

And there is word that Little Jerusalem has reopened in Iroquois Manor. For Mexican out that way, we've settled on Pina Fiesta. I can vouch for the tamales and and top shelf margaritas.

Khalil's in the former Wick's location has pretty decent bar food. We went in thinking it was Middle Eastern, but it's more akin to Beef O'Brady's. Something about the front window makes it look like it's still under construction, but they've been open for a while.

Jerusalem cafe is great in Iroquois manor for Meditteranean, we have Anne's Cafe on Woodlawn, Rubbies BBQ and soon Jimbos is reopening. Also Vietnam Kitchen and a Cuban Bakery and blue plate special place in Iroquois manor on 3rd street La Esquina Caliente.. We also have a Columbian Salvadorian place on Taylor... (empanadas), that I haven't been to yet.. You also have Shack in the Back BBQ in Fairdale which is great

Heard good things about Iroquois Pizza, although I haven't personally been...It is on Manslick Rd between Palatka and Gagel.

It's pretty typical TexMex, somewhat above the local average. I forgot to mention their good black beans.

They are located in the old Bearno's location.

I can't personally vouch for it but a lot of my coworkers who live in that area of town rave about Bonnie & Clyde's pizza on Dixie Hwy.

second and third vietnam kitchen. it has become one of my go-to's. ate at little jerusalem for the first time the other night and was very impressed. chiken shawarma was spot on. wife had the falafel and it was cooked perfectly. really great side dishes as well.

Pina Fiesta is the best on Dixie by a long shot....the back page of their menu is Authentic/Taqueria style.

I've told you of it before Robin..it's in the old 'Tuscany' location

Oops, sorry I forgot, Adrian. And wait, I'm confused. Isn't Tuscany still in the Walmart shopping center on Outer Loop just west of New Cut? Where is Pina Fiesta? I just discovered that it's not googlable.

I put a link for you in my response. The address is there on their web site.

And it is googlable too.
