I'm planning on going to the Irish Rover for the first time tonight--everything on the menu looks great! Anybody have any preferences? Thanks!

I generally like the beer better than the food, frankly, but the fish and chips are always great. It really is probably best to stick with the pub grub selections.

Not to put down the Rover. I love the place! But for me, it's not a food destination, it's a Guinness and Irish ambience destination, with pub grub.

There's a Cashel Salad that's to die for. It's a Bibb salad with balsamic with a cake of cashel soft cheese. Sounds weird, but it's really really good.

Love the fish and chips, and everyone should try a Scotch Egg once. They are really rich...you can split one between two folks.

I adore the Rover, very much enjoy the food and will be dining there as well tonight. It's a bit of a Friday night habit for my partner and I.

Start with a bowl of leek and potato soup. You can't go wrong with fish and chips of course though I also enjoy the Welsh rabbit and on occasion the beef stew.

I just booked a driving trip across Ireland, for early 2008. I cannot find many good things written about the traditional Irish cuisine.

I almost always get the welsh rabbit. At one time in my youth, I was an absolute grilled-cheese-aholic.

Guinness IS traditional Irish cuisine. I backpacked across Ireland several years ago and stayed in a small town on the west coast. I got in late at night and was quite hungry when I woke up the next morning. I asked the desk clerk at the hotel about breakfast and he suggested a place down the street... which happened to be a pub (and the only place in town that served breakfast) - the options were: a pint of Guinness, coffee and a pint of Guinness, soda bread and a pint of Guinness. It didn't take long to figure out I would be drinking a lot of Guinness on that trip (not necessarily a bad thing). :D

Smoked salmon and potato gratin! Mmmm. And I echo the previous suggestions of the Scotch egg.

Oh, I will definitely be getting Scotch eggs! I had them once a few years ago and can't wait to try them again! Thanks for all your great suggestions!

I also enjoy the salmon burgers and the fish cakes. Yum. Since we don't really drink, we do go there for the food! It one of our regular destinations.

No kidding! They are such a guilty pleasure! The salmon potato au gratin is very tasty, as is the berry trifle.
