J. Gumbo's Downtown Moving!

by RonnieD » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:16 pm

With Robin's gracious permission I would like to announce:

We are moving our location out of the Cordish Complex at 4th Street and into new digs at the corner of 5th and Jefferson in the old Quilt Museum across the street from Zoe's Kitchen. Our new spot will have expanded seating so that we don't run out of chairs by 1215pm.

Come check us out in two weeks (or there abouts, I will keep you posted) for our unveiling! We will be closed at our previous location until that time, I apologize for the dearth of affordable Drunken Chicken downtown in the interim.

Hope to see you back downtown soon!

Thank you

Ronnie

Agree 100%, Robin. I worked at Fourth and Muhammad Ali for over 25 years and tried to eat local whenever I could. Lots of sandwiches from Ermin's and City Cafe, and lots of Ronnie's red beans and rice and drunken chicken.

Ronnie, is there an ETA on the opening of the new downtown location? I am in need of a lunchtime fix of Voodoo Chicken, Red Hot Chicken, and Drunken Chicken.

Thanks,
-Pete

Pete, we got pushed back severely due to some unforeseen complications in renovating the space, so that has caused a delay. Right now we are waiting on a door to be installed on the 5th Street side and we are at the mercy of the landlord's GC. As soon as we get the green light, we can turn the space over quickly. We are hoping now for mid-August.

I will keep you posted. Thanks for your patience!

I too am anxiously awaiting the new downtown location. I gave in yesterday and drove out to the Frankfort Ave location. I asked and they told us that it would be late winter before downtown was ready :( . I'm sure Ronnie will be able to provide more details

Construction is under way (finally!) and we are looking at a rough time table of 4 weeks from Monday. I will be certain to give Robin the full details when we have a firm date. This has been too long in the making for my tastes, but we are finally making meaningful progress!

Thanks to everyone for the patience and support!

To update everyone: we are wrapping construction and hope to be open this coming Monday, Nov. 19!

Should that change, I will let everyone know.

The street address is 426 W Jefferson. We are at the northwest corner across the street from Zoe's Kitchen. We will be closed for the holiday, but will hit the ground running again Monday!

Ronnie, I think you might want to check your map again. The new place is on the southeast corner, isnt it? Regardless, we were able,to find it and get our Voodoo chicken fix :D

It would be the northwest corner of the block, but the southeast corner of the intersection, if that makes any sense.
