Kingsford Charcoal - 30# for $5.48 at yer local WalMart

by Steve P » Tue May 22, 2012 4:44 pm

Due to a printing/marketing mistake yer local Walmart is selling 30# of Kingsford Charcoal (2x 15 pound bags) for a mere $5.48 (I was told the published price should have been $15.48). This advertised price is good until 5/28. Note: The store where I purchased mine was being a little sneaky...they had pallets of the stuff but did not have a price on it. When I went to the cashier to check on the price, she asked me "What do you think the price should be"...

I'm going back for more as soon as I can borrow my neighbors pick up truck.

Sic 'em.

I go to Walmart about once a year. We went in on Sunday to pick up a couple of things not available at our usual stores and Mike grabbed a double bag of charcoal. I use it to supplement our hardwood chunks for grilling. Good to know we got such an awesome deal!

For the record...I have personally been a part of the AFL-CIO led boycott of WalMart for many-many-MANY years...As a rule, I do not shop there...ever. The -only- reason I have 150 pounds of their Kingsford Charcoal sitting in my garage right now is because I know they lost money on it...and I felt that it was incumbent on me to help them lose as much money as possible. I encourage others to do the same.

Is it starter-impregnated stuff, though, and if so, would you actually use it? <shudder>

That's cool, Steve. At first I was going to post something about how I thought you were a union man (I'm part of a union family myself and a big supporter of course), but then I realized what you did there. Ha ha, ha ha.

Trying to hurt WalMart by buying their products at any price is ridiculous at best and hypocritical at the least. No Steve, you were helping yourself and trying to spin it to look otherwise. I will say this for you. You are consistently fake.

I don't give a damn about WalMart or chains in general. If I need something and they are nearby, I'll stop without a second thought. If someplace else is closer I'll stop there instead. These are life choices we all make and I'm comfortable with mine.

If some see WalMart and chains in general as evil then they're free to act accordingly. They would do that by not shopping at WalMart I would think. I doubt this misprinted price is causing them any concern. Sounds like an effective loss-leader to me. When a misprint is serious, stores retract the price in the paper and make it unavailable quickly.

Thanks to SteveP – says WalMart. We couldn't have advertised more effectively ourselves.

Here's another option for those who might prefer a different, if not more morally acceptable, behemoth.

Hey dude...I was hesitant to enter into this...but the P man is my friend. I will always stand up for anybody I consider to be so. For what its worth..I can say a lot of things about Steve that piss me off,but being fake is definitely not one of them. You used the word "consistently", yes Steve is consistent. He is definitely one of the more pro union guys I know. A real stand up sort who tells like it like he sees it. He has no problem disagreeing with others and accepting the "asshole" name tag. Fake is not part of his character. I would ask that you apologize for that comment. Otherwise....I think calling him an A hole is perfectly fair game.
Also, if you two be willing...Id be happy to moderate a discussion over a beer at a local watering hole.
