Big River Brewing to open in Louisville (????)

by Steve P » Tue Feb 07, 2012 4:01 pm

Does anyone know if Big River Grill and Brewing Works is about to open here in Louisville ? (Please God make it so)

BRG&B is running a help wanted ad for a Chef on Career Builder and I wasn't sure if the position was for Big River -or- if it was actually a position with the soon to open Gordon Biersch (a company called "CraftWorks Restaurants & Breweries" is the parent company for both restaurants). What causes me to think that -both- of them may soon open is that when G.B. advertised for Chef/Sous Chef positions (back in Dec) the link to the application took you to the G.B. website. The link for this recently posted job takes you to the BRG&B website. On the other hand, the restaurants are very similar in certain respects and it seems kind of redundant to have both located in such a smallish downtown. :?

Anyone have their thumb on the pulse of this one ?

David,

Yep...I've been on that website a few times, so I've got all that. I'm just trying to figure out if Gordon Biersch and Big River are both coming to Louisville or if it's just Gordon Biersch. I mean on one hand it seems like an awfully small market for both...but on the other hand they recruited for B.G. back in Dec via the G.B. website and now they are actively recruiting via the BRG&B website...which causes me to think we will end up with one of each.

BTW...Just as an aside, I've been going to the Big River in CHA two or three times a year for a long-long time and have never-ever been disappointed with either the beer OR the food.

It could be that they just didn't get any good responses when they recruited from the first website, maybe because of 4th streets reputation! Because of that they're trying a different approach this time so people will just talk to them at least?

I very much doubt if that is the case Mark...Gordon Biersch and Big River are both professionally managed and respected "brands"and I don't think they would have even the least bit of trouble recruiting in a city like Louisville. As an aside, other than those people on this forum who involuntarily and collectively insert a large and crawly bug up their asses whenever the word/s "Fourth Street" are mentioned, I have yet to speak with anyone else in the area who is holds Fourth Street and what goes on down there in such low esteem.

Big River Brewing's website, not Craft Works', list the open positions at Gordon Biersch.

(Dead Link) Anyway, you must be going somewhere I haven't been Justin because I found BRG&B jobs on the BRG&B website and G.B. job listings on the G.B. website.

No big deal, we'll find out one way or the other in the coming weeks.

Link still works for me.

It is Big Rivers' site, but list Biercsh as the only job opening in KY.

I respectfully disagree . . . I believe the bug is inserted voluntarily, and with gusto.

Hmm, I wonder when the first Chinese-venture-capital-financed corporate chain brewpub will start working the Rally's side of the street?

Never mind. I forgot about Hops.

Dude...As far as I'm concerned you lost the right to lecture me (or anyone else for that matter) about the evils of "corporate chains" the day I walked into B.J.'s Brewpub at the mall (no less) and found NABC Hoptimus on tap. What's next ? Mellow Mushroom ? Old Chicago ?

I'm pretty sure that Old Chicago here already does offer NABC. It's been awhile since I've been there, but I thought I had Elector there. When I've been to other Old Chicagos in other cities I've noticed that they usually have some taps with local brews. I've always appreciated that.

OC has carried NABC beer since we started selling in Louisville. I believe they carry all our great, local brewery's beer.

Roger conveniently forgets that "corporate" comes from the word "incorporated" which his businesses are.

So technically speaking, Roger is the "corporate America" he rants on about. Also, since he has more than one location, he's technically a chain.

Which is why I laugh every time he bitches about himself.

Remember Justice Potter Stewart, who could not define "pornography" but could recognize it when he saw it? Corporations are kind of like that, too. If you can't tell the difference between a small, closely held, locally owned business and a multinational corporate entity, you're just not looking.

But I'm pretty sure you already know this, Chris ... ;)
