Breakfast this morning.

by Beth Thorpe » Sat Jan 28, 2012 8:42 am

Anyone up already? If you lived in the Highlands ( although I am completely willing to drive some) where would you eat breakfast this morning? Thinking about North End, and have already been to Highland morning. What are your favorites in town?

Beth, since you live in the Highlands, the new North End makes a lot of sense. North End has excellent breakfast options (I like the Latino options like migas or breakfast tacos, myself), and you might as well get familiar with what's available close to home. Of course, Lynn's Paradise Cafe is a Louisville favorite that you ought to experience just once ...

Yes, Lynns' Paradise Cafe is a trip. Very, very funny. We went there for dinner actually, but maybe if the hubby gets up early we can go experience the crazy French Toast that I saw there- although, I might not be able to do anything the rest of the day after the sugar bomb

I have been to both North End's- lunch on Frankfort and Dinner on Bardstown. Think the atmosphere is more my speed on Frankfort, so maybe there. And you know one of the coolest thing about Louisville? Everywhere is so close! It is such a luxury and I don't even come most recently from a city with that bad of traffic(Seattle or Chicago is another story), St. Louis is just a huge area.... really spread out. When I would go to breakfast there, oftentimes, I would be heading all the way across town, and I would be a good 25 minutes in the car, even early in the morning. That pretty much covers the entire Louisville metro area.

So, willing to go outside of the highlands if there is something extra special. Robin, what is your favorite breakfast in town? And then Brunch, both high end fancy styles and more mellow, casual ones. Are the hotels doing brunch on Sundays here? Since you are up, may as well get some opinions!

Wild Eggs in Dupont Square is worth the trip. You can beat the crazy weekend wait if you get there before 9:30. We've noticed that you can beat all the wait times for breakfast on the weekend if you get up a little earlier. Not hard for me as I get up at 4:30-5:00 am through the week. Sleeping in to 7:00 on the weekend is a big deal to me

I have not been there- We need to give that a whirl too. And yes, if you get up early and don't need breakfast at 1030 on the weekend, you usually can get in anywhere. I am an early riser too. Hubby, not so much. ;-)

Will see if tempting him with a good breakfast will make a difference in getting him out of bed!

I keep seeing this pop up on the web about breakfast. What is good here? More of a diner, right?

How about Baby D's Bagel Deli on Highland. The breafast sandwichs are great.

Go to Shady Lane and introduce yourself to Bill and Susi - they're on the forum! Meridian Cafe has great breakfast, too. Or 211 Clover for an excellent brunch (from the menu, not a buffay).

Thanks all! Went to the North End, it was pretty good. The Shady Lane sounds awesome, though. That is on the list without a doubt. Haven't heard of the other two you mentioned Robin, will be checking those out as well.

And Baby D's bagels- that is close to us. Will give that a try-although the bagel conversation yesterday makes me think there may not really be any good bagels here.

Dear Folks, We only do breakfast on Sat. Mornings from 8:30 till Noon. This morning, besides the usual fare, we had a Chorizo, pepperjack and egg burrito with salsa, etc. Our special omelet was a Greek one with spinach and feta. We have the best Biscuits and Gravy in town, French Toast with a Cherry Compote, Wonderful cheese grits, a Brie and Pesto Omelet... and much, much, more. Come on over. Serving Goodness every day. We hope to expand the breakfast and be open again for dinner soon. To tell you the truth, lunch is so slamming that we have gotten sorta used to almost a normal schedule...which for us restaurant folks is a rarity . Bill and Susi.

For anyone looking for a good breakfast/brunch/lunch I suggest Anchorage Cafe. It's located in downtown Anchorage just outside of Louisville (which I realize is a drive for some, but its worth it!) They offer breakfast every morning during the week M-F 7:00AM-11:30AM and Breakfast/Brunch Saturday & Sunday starting at 8AM. I suggest trying one of the specials. Not to mention $5 Mimosas..... (not just orange juice with a splash of champagne...they are the real deal). It's good, locally sourced food that won't burn a hole in your wallet.

Jenn,

I keep meaning to do breakfast at Anchorage Cafe- I love their dinner menu. But unfortunately, with a late-sleeping teen and early rising 7 year old, eating breakfast out almost never happens for us.

I recommend it to other forumites though- given the fantastic stuff we've had at dinner, I'm sure the breakfast is amazing!
