Feast BBQ coming to New Albany!

by Deb Hall » Tue Jan 10, 2012 1:13 pm

All,

I had lunch with Chef Ryan Rogers last week and he told me about his plans to open his first restaurant in New Albany this Spring. "Feast BBQ"- the concept is focused on BBQ, Bourbon and Craft-Beer. He's in the process of renovating a 100+ year old former saloon on West Main in New Albany- planning to open this Spring.

We've loved Ryan's food at Zanzabar and The Anchorage Cafe; the brisket he created at Zanzabar remains the best I've ever had. Can't wait to see what he creates at Feast!

Brilliant news Deb! Nobody has had lasting success at barbecue on this side of the river; at least not in the last ten years. Unless you count Dave's Famous BBQ (and I don't). Combining it with bourbon and real beer sounds like a fantasy come true.

I hope Chef Ryan will come on here and describe his BBQ for us. I'm wishing for some North Carolina style pulled pork and Texas style brisket. I don't like eating ribs as one of my hands has usually got a beer in it.

Now for sides, I'll have cole slaw and hush puppies and green beans and greens, and ....... Oh yeah. Forgot I'm not the one opening a restaurant. Anyway, that is great news and I'm looking forward to giving Feast BBQ a try as soon as it opens. Cheers!
I'm a bitter drinker....I just prefer it that way

Here is Ryan's news release ... looks like good stuff!

BBQ TO JOIN DOWNTOWN NEW ALBANY'S RESTAURANT ROW
Feast BBQ scheduled for Spring opening

Chef Ryan Rogers announces the opening of his first
restaurant – Feast BBQ - in the Spring of 2012 at 116 West Main Street in downtown New Albany,
Indiana. Feast BBQ will be focused on great BBQ, Bourbon, and Craft Beer.

Chef-owner Rogers is excited to be a part of the burgeoning food scene in Downtown New
Albany and is eager to contribute the BBQ recipes, techniques, and sauces he has been crafting. “Low
and slow is an understatement. At Feast we will take the time needed to treat the BBQ with the utmost
care and attention”, states Rogers. “ While extremely labor intensive, the results are worth the efforts”.

The menu will includes traditional BBQ such as pulled pork, baby back ribs, brisket, & chicken along
with house-made sides, and a variety of appetizers and desserts.

In addition to BBQ, Chef Rogers plans to offer New Albany’s largest selection of bourbons
with over 50 brands, as well as a wide variety of beers where he will maintain a focus on locally-
brewed and craft beers.

Chef Rogers is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute. His past kitchens include
Momofuku Noodle Bar in New York (where Chef David Chang was named 2007 Chef of the Year by
both Bon Appetit and GQ's), The Oakroom (Kentucky’s only 5 Diamond Restaurant), Zanzabar (where
as head chef he received 3 Stars from The Courier Journal), and the Anchorage Café where, along with
Andy Myers, he was called one of, “The Brightest New Chefs in Town” by LEO Weekly.

Feast BBQ will be located at 116 West Main Street across from the YMCA. The building was
built in the Italianate style and served as various New Albany saloons from the 1880’s until the mid-
1980’s when it was vacated. Renovations are currently underway for the Spring 2012 opening. The
original brick walls have been uncovered and will showcase a series of photographs chronicling the
building's history and revival.

You can follow the construction and launch of Feast BBQ on Facebook and Twitter at

It's a natural: Go to the YMCA across the street, lose weight, then go to Feast BBQ and gain it all back. I'm for it. Might have to cut out the first part and go directly to the second.

Ah, but the walk over to your place for some pommes frites burns off all the calories, right Roger?
What a great idea for a progressive dinner! ( but I'd skip the "Y" part  )

This has nothing to do with Ryan's BBQ joint, but NJ and I spent the better part of the day putzing around Nahlbany today. There are a lot of empty store fronts, but the place has a nice feel that to me is indicative of potential improvement. We basically did some furniture shopping at a couple of downtown locations, window shopped, and had a fish platter at Jackson's Seafood (It was good btw).
Just North of Downtown we headed to a re upholsterer and since it was getting late by that point, I admonished NJ to be quick about her business. Well, the 72 year old proprietor, a German guy, and I hit it off and spent the better part of an hour talking about politics and restoring old Jaguars (which I know nothing about). NJ was giving me the very evil eye to get a move on the whole time, which made it all that much more fun.

Also, we took a picture of this Car/Thing...very fun and we chuckled about it hours later.
