Need restaurant willing to provide food for Kosair Hospital

by Paula B » Tue Jan 03, 2012 11:58 am

Dear All,
Our Community Task Group of Louisville Board of Realtors provides a meal 1 time a month to Kosair Children's Hospital parents that have kids in the hospital. We have different offices that volunteer each month to provide the meal and some support to the parents. It is a chance for the parents to unwind with a decent meal, though they usually take it back to their child's room. Having spent many days w/ my son in Kosair this is something that is close to my heart. Kosair requires that the meal be brought from a restaurant.
When we had Browning's we provided the meal each month for $100. This included a salad, main course ( pasta w/ chicken was popular), and dessert for 40 people. Nothing fancy, just some decent food. The agents provide all utensils, set ups, etc... It just needed to be in disposable containers, and someone picked it up at paid by 5pm on the 3rd thursday of the month.
Sadly, the real estate offices are having a hard time finding anyone to do it for anywhere close to what we charged, and may quit providing this for the families that have kids in the hospital due to the cost.
Any restaurants willing to help? it is 1 time a month, and they pay when they pick up the food? Please either respond here or email me paulabarmore@remax.net thank you in advance!

My son spent 9 nine days in Kosiar 3 of those which were in th ICU, I was also a childlife volunteer twice a week for a year there. We do not offer savory items at this time, but we would be more than happy to donate desserts if you need someone too. I will do this free of charge if needed, Maybe this will be able to leave the $100 to go towards just the entrees and salads instead of them having to squeeze a dessert out of the cost also. I am not sure I will be able to do this every month, but I can every now and again.

Hi Paula,

I'm willing to step up to the plate. I own a catering business that could easily fill your needs. Our kitchen is on 3rd Street Road near the Outer Loop. We do a lot of contract cooking somewhat similar to what you need. I would love to help out.
I also know Chase, met him when he was 15 or so. He helped me out by doing dishes for my cooking classes when I teamed up with Gary from Highland Fish!
Small world huh?

Jamie, if it works out maybe we could work something out so that they can get some awesome cup cakes every once in a while.

I'm also willing to do desserts now and then. I can't donate every month. Michelle, just let me know when you don't want to bake and I'll fill in.

Paula - We would be happy to pick up where Brownings left off. We're on the outer eastern edge of Louisville Metro so hopefully it will be convenient for someone to pick up. We'll do all but the dessert.
Let me know.

I live just down the road from the Burning Bush and would be willing to pick up and deliver on my way to work if that helps.

We live very close also and would be very happy to pick up and deliver. It is wonderful that you have offered to participate. We can coordinate with Ed to make sure your generous offer is delivered. Thank you very much for your support of local causes!

I feel like I'm bidding on this lol but this is right up my alley, I've been doing charity events for a long time and this one is close to my heart. I can not deliver and maybe I'm not in the eastend but I've been in the biz for 30+ and scratch homestyle cooking is my speciality. (I can probably meet halfway) I can include desserts most months and will work with Jaime and Leah to ensure that the parents will be surprised and pleased.

Maybe just maybe we could all work together to get this done! Does it have to be the same place every month?

Hi Michele! No bidding wars! I'm just glad to pick up in Oldham County and the Eastern Jefferson County corridor when needed. Hope that someone near you and Jamie and Leah would do the same and bring it in to downtown. I think we have enough people in our online community to make it happen! I've advocated for and supported Kosair Childrens for almost 30 years and am happyto do whatever to help make it happen.

We will step up for however often we may be needed. I'm thankful that interest exist to help with this effort and are willing, like the others, to help keep the original effort going. My hope is that others will step up and that this will become a community effort.

Paula, this is your baby just let us know when we are needed.

Wow! Once again I am so glad to live in a place with so many generous people. Thanks to the generousity of this board, and the people that forwarded the requests to others that may not be online, the dinners will be able to continue at Kosair for this year.
What I am doing is giving the real estate offices that have signed up to do a dinner, a list of restaurants and caterers that have offered to help provide the food at discounted or no cost (very generous!). Each month a different group of people order, pick up, deliver, and go to the hospital. They will decide where they want to order from, and they are from all over the city. One of the best things about agents, I think, we are used to driving a lot, so someplace out of our way isn't usually that big of a deal.
I also hope that all of the vendors will get more business from agents, because of their generous spirit.
Please don't hesitate to continue to send me information, or call , 5029057724. We have been doing it for almost 2 years, and it is such a nice way to give back.
Thanks again, you all are the best! :D :D
