"Pappy"

by Steve P » Sun Nov 06, 2011 2:11 pm

This falls "Pappy" has been released...I picked up a couple of bottles at a couple of top secret locations on Friday. The Liquor Barn (at least the one at Springhurst) did NOT get their shipment and apparently won't until Tuesday.

Hey Daddio, which flavor/s did you get. I've had a couple of sips of the 10 year but that was not enough to make me go looking for it too hard. Btw you used to have the best avatar on the forum.

I read that Jack Bauer is Antonin Scalia's favorite super-hero. That pretty much says it all for me.

I thought maybe Kiefer was running for king of garage logic. He'd be good! All problems solved in 24.

Every appearance of "Flaming Colonel" and "Vito" the scourge of all pesky wood chucks, possums, and door to door preachers makes me smile. :) Sorry, guest this is off message. What was the message oh yeah.....Pappy bring the daddio back. Please!

I bought (2) bottles of 10 y.o. and (2) bottles of 12 y.o. all for gifts...and a bottle of 15 y.o for myself and the lovely Rebecca....The 10 y.o is "K". The 12 y.o. great and the 15 y.o is Rock Star...I happen to like the 15 better than the 20 and 23 y.o.

Ok, on your recommendation I'm going to try to run some of that down tomorrow. I think I know where I can get some.

Btw going to Majid's Wed at 8:00 and Stephen is going to pour a few special labels. Feel free to join us and I'll by you a drink. Just don't tell Jack I here he drinks like a bloody fish!
Cheers

Well done, sir. Personally, I prefer the 15 to everything except the 23, but at the 23 price point, I might as well prefer the 15 to everything. It really is an exceptional bourbon.

The Liquor Barn keeps a "courtesy" will-call list for important releases (e.g. "Pappy")...So this morning I got a call from them announcing today's release. I politely thanked the gentleman for calling with the "heads up" and then commented that they were probably going to have a busy morning, to which he reminded me that they don't open until 6pm because of it being election day. <DOH>...Now I KNOW I want to go down and watch the "show".... It's gonna be like a Black Friday sale at Walmart  A feller just doesn't get this kinda free entertainment very often.

Wow, I never knew the liquor law had that stipulation.

Well, I stopped at four liquor stores (including The Keg) today on the Indiana side of the river and they got no Pappy. So, I stopped in at my favorite watering hole and they called all of their distributors and finally called the distiller only to be told that the shipments to Indiana had not even left the distillery yet.

That sucks. The liquor stores in KY won't open until 6:00 and traffic across the bridge is.... well not really a sane option at this time of day. I'd have to drink a bottle of cheap Rye just to get over the bridge without jumping. Then I'm sure the guy in line just in front of me would get the last bottle anyway.

NO FAIR..... :(

Hey ToddA, can you hook a guy up?

I popped in my favorite store, Hometown Liquors, last night right at 6:00 and they were down to 1 bottle each of the 12, 15, 20, and 23. I picked up a 15 and 20.

A colleague stopped by the Hurstbourne Liquor Barn right at 6:00 and there was a smallish line out front waiting for them to open. They sold out of the 15 in a few minutes and before he could make it to the front, but had a few bottles each of the 12, 20, and 23 left.

I will say that I was surprised by the price incease. The 15 has gone from $50 to $80, and the 20 has gone from $100 to $150. The 12 is $55 now.

Supply and demand, I suppose.
